Publisher's summary

Rick Reilly has been a senior sports writer for Sports Illustrated for the past 17 years, and has been named "Sports Writer of The Year" seven times. Now, he pokes his nose into the world of golf. How does he do it? By caddying ("looping") for top players, celebrities, and some really bad run-of-the-mill golfers, Reilly gains insight into the minds of golfers, their winning or less-than-winning ways, and what they actually mutter when they're in the middle of play. Even though Reilly doesn't know a thing about actual caddying, Jack Nicklaus, David Duval, Tom Lehmann, Deepak Chopra, Donald Trump, Casey Martin, and a blind golfer let him fumble through the motions at their sides. The result is a hilarious book of wisdom and humor.

Critic reviews

"Hilarious misadventures, catty gossip, and downright embarrassing facts are only part of the appeal of this deftly written journal by Sports Illustrated writer Reilly....A truly funny, don't-miss read." (Publishers Weekly)

Very Interesting Book

This was a great book. Rick Reilly did a great job with the narrative and the subject was fascinating - caddying for a variety of personalities and reporting about the lessons, experiences, conversations, comaraderie. I love golf and this was just a pleasure to listen to in the morning and afternoon drives between work and home. I highly recommend this for golf fanatics.

fun to listen

Found this title very entertaining. It take a backstage look into the life of some of professional golfers on and off the course. Highly recommend to those of you sitting in traffic and want a little laugh every so often. You don't need to be a hardcore golfer, just knowing some of these high profile golfers makes the experience much better.

Good book

If you like golf, then you'll like this book. Very entertaining stories about the players. One thing that annoyed me, though, was the lack of editing of the recording. The narrator kept calling the Titleist Pro-V1 the Pro-Six, for the Roman number 6, VI. He obviously doesn't golf and no one reviewed the recording. You may say that it's petty to say that but it annoyed me to no end and expected more from the book. Otherwise, Rick does a good job of making fun of himself and the players.

Not bad

I'm not a golfer, only a spectator. It adds more of a personality of these players.

Entertaining for all

A very humorous look at the world of an otherwise boring sport. He puts a personality to the guys strolling down the fairway without making it sound like I am listening to a round of golf on the radio. Well-written and entertaining for even the casual sports fan. The reading is excellent. The narrator has a great voice and great inflection. A pleasant break from the usual novel I regularly purchase.

Pretty good

He had some funny stories but the reader was annoying. I couldn't get over him repeatedly calling the Pro V-1 the "Titleist Pro 6."

Loved It!

I'm an avid golfer and found both the description of the players I knew and the insight into them personally both entertaining and often throught provoking. I laughed a lot and learned a lot. This book gave me a new appreciation of this wonderful yet frustrating game. Well worth the time and money.

Awesome book, great narrator too!

If you want to walk along inside the ropes with a golfer and hear what really goes on, listen to this book. Lol several times.
