Publisher's summary

Kat, a lapsed Catholic and promiscuous stripper, never thought she would get into Heaven.

Even as she stands there at the Pearly Gates, she naturally expects to be sent directly to Hell. She picks a fight with St. Peter just for fun, but rules are rules, and Kat makes it into Heaven on a minor technicality.

Once there, Kat discovers, much to her dismay, the angels are jerks, the only music is God-awful Christian rock, and her brand-new halo comes with some most troubling conditions.

As if things weren’t dismaying enough, Kay reunites with her father, who found eternal peace in a bottomless bottle of scotch, and her pot-smoking aunt, whose demon dealer resides in Hell. When she tracks down the demon, he tells Kat about his home in the desolate, fiery pit - where it rains blood but possesses all the earthly pleasures she misses so much in her disappointing afterlife.

Heaven isn’t the paradise Kat was promised in Sunday school, and she wants out.

But will they let her go?

The description of the overall scenes and the characters. The writer paints a vibrant picture of the story.

No real dislikes other then when it ended I wanted way more. I would love to see a sequel.

An Amazing Indictment of the Lie of Heaven

Erin Louis does an amazing job breaking down why the Christian Heaven would be an absolute nightmare. Following Kat and her attempt to enjoy "Paradise", you get a real sense of the author's actual frustration with the theology of her youth. In this book, she manages to create a much more realistic picture of what the afterlife would be like under the purview of the Christian god than anything presented in any church. A fantastic journey from start to end.

I gave the narrator only 4 stars just because her voice took a bit to get used to, but overall she did a good job. The voice she chose for Jesus I found especially funny.

North of Hell?

This is one of those books where you ask yourself where the hell did someone get an idea for this book from? I mean it’s not typically that you come across the book in which someone squeaks their way into heaven only to find out later that is the most miserable place in the universe for them. This is kind of like a humorous twilight zone movie on crack.

it’s funny and just a little bit scary when you think about just how that might actually work out.

Cathy Colas is a great narrator. Every book should get a shot of 10 CC’s! She’ll take you off life support and knock you right out of that narration coma you were in. He will dig this book like you were 6 feet under and on the road that you were meant to be on brother.

“Highway to Hell” 😁

I’m hard to please on a long road trip. I always listen to the audio samples before I order a book, because the narrator either makes the trip fly by… or I end up moving to another book within the first few pages.
On a recent long road trip, I ordered this book. When I got to my destination, I had six minutes left. Rather than finish it and know the ending, I decided to wait until my trip home, and savor the ending after waiting through the week. It was worth the wait.
My only disappointment with this book, was that now I would no longer be hearing the exploits of Cat (and her cats) in this extremely refreshing, funny (yes, I guffawed out loud several times as I flew down the interstate), and totally original novel.
The author, Erin Louis, does a great job moving the story along with lots of humor, and several twists and turns along the way with well developed and highly entertaining characters.
The narrator, Cathi Colas, takes on the task of telling this story in the cheeky vibe of the whole book, and fleshes out every character (human, animal, angel, and beyond) with great versatility and creativity, as she drives the story along with never (and I mean never) a dull moment. This audiobook was probably the most entertainment I’ve had on a boring road trip in a long time. I would definitely check out anything by this creative author and talented narrator again!

Interesting

What if you make it to Heaven and realize you want to get out because it’s not what you thought it would be? Loved this twist to a classic story.
