Publisher's summary

Deirdre Baker did a magical favor for a bunch of shape-shifters and barely lived to regret it. She has enough trouble paying the bills and keeping her coven off her back without worrying about whether some wolf alpha dies of poison. But when Miles "I always get my way" Evershaw orders his pack to kidnap her, Deirdre finds herself in over her head before she can even hex the infuriating man.

Miles Evershaw didn't expect the witch to be cooperative, not after the pack hunted her down, and he never imagined she'd be young and beautiful and completely out of her mind. But when she saved his life - twice - and he catches a glimpse of the kind, funny woman underneath the magic, the wolf alpha knows he needs her in his life. Even if it means getting hexed - a lot.

Deirdre wants freedom, and Evershaw needs control. He expects to be obeyed, and she flaunts the rules. With the coven searching for Deirdre for its own reasons and half the city trying to kill Evershaw, can they survive long enough to stop arguing and finally agree...to love?

Intriguing Story

I enjoy shifter stories, however I loved how this story was not completely focused on the matebond. It was refreshing how you got to connect with each character individually prior to the introduction of the matebond. I look forward to reading more books by Layla Nash.

Miles Evershaw deserved a better storyline!

I first heard about Miles Evershaw in the "City Shifters, Pride Series", so I was very excited to hear his storyline. His mate, Deirdre was potrayed as a "strong young witch", but her character was whiney and meek and honestly it became frustrating listening to her! I didn't get to see Miles have his happily ever after until the very end of the book and I thought he deserved a better story line than the one he got. It was hard to get through book one without just checking half way, but I didn't want to give up on Miles.

Bottom line, I really enjoyed the "Pride Series" and I like Layla and Beth, but honestly I just didn't resonate with this story and was feeling very disappointed by the end of it. However, I am not giving up on this dynamic duo and I am on to book two! I am just hoping that Henry's story is much different than book one.

Fingers Crossed!

Good overall

Good story overall. Frustrating that she’s supposed to be this powerful witch but keeps getting kidnapped, with no power to escape. She’s supposed to be a badass, but it’s all bark with no bite. I liked the narrator but wish their was duel narration, the male alpha should have been a deeper tone. Felt like Lots of reading to me with her normal voice. 😳
