Publisher's summary

Anna nearly dies, along with all her family, at age four from the deadly Cacao virus. But she survives, thanks to a poisonous red-headed krait. The medical community is excited since there is no known cure for the virus, but Anna and her snake, Red, have a symbiotic relationship - containment, not cure. If she is ever separated from Red, she will die.

Anna struggles through foster homes. As her krait becomes known and valuable throughout the three star empires as one of only a handful of such snakes, she fights off attempts to kill her and snatch Red. She even comes to wonder if her brilliance in school and eventually at deciphering code is somehow connected to her constant companion.

When the Naval Intelligence Agency, the NIA, recruits her, her adventures grow beyond fending off thieves and killers to tracking down interstellar smugglers as part of an elite team, but the smuggling cartel are quick to fight back. In the midst of space battles and well-placed assassins, Anna is convinced that Red's presence may make the difference in survival or death, not just for her but her entire NIA team.

a different kind of Military Scifi

not your typical scifi with a female heroine. the reluctant hero and her snake take on the bad guys.

Nice story, clean

Was impressed with writer’s story using no foul language. An ability to bring across emotion with no vulgar language is nice to read. So clean reading for younger adults. Loved the well thought out story, and will read or listen to more by this writer. Thank you

I consider this a hidden gem

Got this book as part of one book and found my self spending the entire day listening to it. Narration was excellent and the story well crafted.

Why do I like it

This was a nice story. I usually go for more action based. But the tale rolled along nicely.

Narrator sounds like a valley girl

Interesting story premise, but I will read the rest in the series unless a different narrator is used.

Fantastic Story Telling

The Red Angle Series is fantastic. I have listened to all three of the books so many times that the recordings are starting to fray at the edges. All three books are above and beyond story telling. I will not go into the details of the stories because you will have to judge them for yourself.

Great start to an interesting series

This isn’t my usual type of story but once I started I couldn’t stop, great story, interesting characters and the narrator did a great job of giving the characters life. I’m now going to start the next book!

really good book, don't let the art fool you

the narrator does a good job of different voices which just enhances the story. although the book art could be better, but hey the important parts are good

YA SCI FI

Promising start to a YA sci fi series. Interesting take on a snake having a symbiotic relationship with a young girl. follows naturally resulting trials & tribulations & eventually leads to pretty unbelievable joining of & rise in the soace navy intelligence bureau by said teen. she, of course, figures everything out before the dumb adults & solves what would normally be a years long case in only a few months time.
But for a free listen as part of Aubidle catalog for members, it was a light read with feel good relationships between girl & her adopted mother & team mate/"big sister".
Tech not very advanced for spacecfaring folk, using current internet & com practices instead of imagined more complicated futuristic ones. This was a bit obvious & did detract from story to those who these types of details matter.
I t read like a sorty set in today3worls, or actually more like 10 or 20 years ago, who just drove air skinmers & fleet space craft.
But all in all, for a nice, easy YA read with an outcast loner who becomes a pragmatic, strong young Female Hero, who with her snake is great at spotting patterns & breaking code.
Listened to in a day (you don't have to pay attention real hard while listening to it, so it goes by fast.)
Curious enough to check out Vol II, especially as it's available free as part of the members benefit catalog.
