Publisher's Summary

You have glioblastoma, an incurable brain cancer, and have less than a month to live. What price would you be willing to pay for a cure?

Any price? Are you sure?

Would it be worth agreeing to join an alien nation offering a cure but without any of the messy details like:

  • Who and what are the aliens
  • Proof they can cure you
  • Why they want people from Earth
  • The alien's specific needs
  • What they expect from those they cure

And knowing you will never see Earth again.

Kayla, a 17-year-old teenager, and others with an assortment of lethal medical conditions are about to find out the price of life.

YA scifi

The story is simplistic. The science is ... well example a cruiser does a vertical loop in .... space.. and things fall and hurt people. only in the vertical loop no other maneuvers like they are in 2d gravity well battle.

Had to stop half way through

people with terminal illnesses get abducted by aliens. They are given the choice between being send to back earth and dying or being healed and going with whatever the aliens might have planned for them. Turns out the aliens need soldiers for a war they are loosing and humans make for good soldiers apparently. The war is a real meat grinder, a ship surviving 5 engagements on average and any deserters are banished and left to die on the inhospitable surface of the planet.

All this would be fine if it weren't for how in love the protagonist is with the aliens. Why is she so patriotic towards this alien race? At this point she literally haven't even talked to one of them for more than a few sentences. It feels forced.

Besides that we have over the top bad guys among her peers. I'm talking the selfish, entitled, arrogant, dumb and most importantly reallllly sexist kind. It's boring. It doesn't help that the rest of the cast isn't exactly exciting either.

Maybe it gets much better in the second half, but I'm out.

How does CR Daems Do It?

Some of the book one back stories develop slowly at the beginning for his series yet, each time after a few chapters., CR Daems persuades me that he's the best Sci-fi character developing author I've read since I devoured all of Robert A. Heinlein's books many years ago.

To me, CR Daems is a master story teller ...
