Good Grief…This is Good

This is about as wonderful as it gets when it comes to writing advice. Shes not teaching you how to write a blockbuster, shes reaching you how to write honestly and fearlessly in your own voice. Learn how to do that she is saying and then you can go write whatever your heart desires. Beautifully read with a genuine warmth.

Inspirational!

Natalie's ad libs bewteen chapters I found to be very entertaining and informative. This book gave me the confidence I needed to continue doing what I once loved to do, which is to express myself through writing. Her suggested exercises and ways to get the ball rolling if you are struggling to do so really work. I love this book and I would highly recommend it.

Inspiring, deep and an amazing voice she has.

What made the experience of listening to Writing Down the Bones the most enjoyable?

Great advices for writing, deep thoughts about life that actually will improve your writing. She has that deep calm voice that makes me feel like If I was home, a voice that makes me smile , that makes me feel I'm in a Café having coffee and croissant and she is there with me talking about her life.
Natalie has the power to make you feel you don't need anything else besides yourself, your pen and your paper for become a good writer.

What’s an idea from the book that you will remember?

Loneliness is not a fear that we should overcome. Loneliness is just that black big dog that we have to become friends with.

Book that brings pure joy

I can listen to the book over and over again and it manages to inspire me every time. I read "Writing down the bones" more than 10 years ago when my mom accidentally bought it as a guide for writing her diploma work in Law. At that time I was bored, overly emotional teenager who sometimes wrote corny poems. I never really had a guidance and I had no idea how to connect my brain and heart with the hand and paper. "Writing down the bones" gave me a kick for writing prose and taught me how to live right on the paper. I didn't became a writer then, but her tricks helped me through difficult times when I just had to "write out" my emotions or that burning feeling inside me.
Now 10 years later I am happy to hear Natalie's voice. It's like listening to an old friend, although we had never met in real life. This time I came back as a creative professional and her tips now make a very different sense. And at the same time I can now see how I have used her strategies to build my career and how to trust myself even when everything seems impossible.
Definitely one of the best books I have ever read and that has had the great impact on my life. If your are an aspiring creative and especially interested in writing I encourage you to read this book before any other writing guide.

Inspiring.

Miss Goldberg motivates. She made me think in simpler terms. Don't think, write. Get it down and out of your head.

Paradoxical as Writing about the Process Should Be

Much about what Goldberg says about the writing process rings true to me, because her thoughts are so paradoxical. I love how she says that it is important to write about the deep subjects that we might fear thinking about the most. It turns out I have my entire life been a student of Natalie Goldberg, tho this is the first I ever read of her works, much of her ideas have lingered into my life works and studies and explorations. I also think she has an interesting idea to fill a notebook every month. I love that she is focusing on quantity with the idea that quality will come naturally. I wish I could have her as a teacher of mine, so it is amazing to have this book with her voice and to be able to hear it where ever I am.
