Publisher's summary
From the author of the highly addictive and best-selling Blue Bloods series, with almost three million copies sold, comes a new novel, Melissa de la Cruz’s first for adults, featuring a family of formidable and beguiling witches.
The three Beauchamp women—Joanna and her daughters Freya and Ingrid—live in North Hampton, out on the tip of Long Island. Their beautiful, mist-shrouded town seems almost stuck in time, and all three women lead seemingly quiet, uneventful existences. But they are harboring a mighty secret—they are powerful witches banned from using their magic. Joanna can resurrect people from the dead and heal the most serious of injuries. Ingrid, her bookish daughter, has the ability to predict the future and weave knots that can solve anything from infertility to infidelity. And finally, there’s Freya, the wild child, who has a charm or a potion that can cure most any heartache.
For centuries, all three women have been forced to suppress their abilities. But then Freya, who is about to get married to the wealthy and mysterious Bran Gardiner, finds that her increasingly complicated romantic life makes it more difficult than ever to hide her secret. Soon Ingrid and Joanna confront similar dilemmas, and the Beauchamp women realize they can no longer conceal their true selves. They unearth their wands from the attic, dust off their broomsticks, and begin casting spells on the townspeople. It all seems like a bit of good-natured, innocent magic, but then mysterious, violent attacks begin to plague the town. When a young girl disappears over the Fourth of July weekend, they realize it’s time to uncover who and what dark forces are working against them.
With a brand-new cast of characters, a fascinating and fresh world to discover, and a few surprise appearances from some of the Blue Blood fan favorites, this is a pause-resistant, deliciously fun, magical summer listen, fraught with love affairs, witchcraft, and an unforgettable battle between good and evil.

Story
Once, I put a curse on a beastly and arrogant high school boy. That one turned out all right. Others didn’t. I go to a new school now - one where no one knows that I should have graduated long ago. I’m not still here because I’m stupid; I just don’t age. You see, I’m immortal. And I pretty much know everything after hundreds of years - except for when to take my powers and butt out. Now a girl named Emma needs me. I probably shouldn’t get involved, but her gorgeous stepsister is conniving to the core.

Award-winning poet Marisa de los Santos crafts an irresistibly touching debut novel. Love Walked In is a contemporary tale, steeped in nostalgic, cinematic charm, of love in all its forms. Unapologetically idealistic about love, Cornelia Brown appears to catch the break of a lifetime when the dashing Martin Grace, her own personal Cary Grant, comes strolling into her life. But it is Martin's connection to 11-year-old Clare Hobbes that touches Cornelia's heart in ways she never imagined.

In "Books and Roses", one special key opens a library, a garden, and clues to at least two lovers' fates. In "Is Your Blood as Red as This?", an unlikely key opens the heart of a student at a puppeteering school. "'Sorry' Doesn't Sweeten Her Tea" involves a "house of locks", where doors can be closed only with a key - with surprising unobservable developments. And in "If a Book Is Locked There's Probably a Good Reason for That Don't You Think", a key keeps a mystical diary locked (for good reason).

love the idea
The idea that Gods are living among us captured my interest, but this book had such an underdeveloped plot, and very little captivating drama. for a book that was written for adults, it developed like a YA novel. the narration was poor.

Not what I was expecting
Interesting story but I made the mistake of watching the show before reading the book. When I do that I usually find I enjoy the book more but alas... I liked the show better. So though the story was interesting it was not what I was expecting and left me confused and bored at some parts.

I feel like there could be so much more to it.
I really enjoyed the Blue Bloods series by Melissa de la Cruz, but I really feel like there could be more to it. The beginning of the book was not great, I had to grit my teeth through the start, but I wanted to give it a good chance. I feel like I spent the whole book wanting more. The author went into so much superficial and shallow detail with money and sexuality, and it's like she ran out of time for the actual details of the story and what happens. The idea for it is so great I keep reading her stuff hoping it'll get better but I felt this way with all the Blue Bloods books and this one. Either she rushes at the end to meet a deadline and the story suffers because of it, or she's just not as interested in explaining the plot as I want her to be.
This will be my last Melissa de la Cruz story. There's too many options out there to be let down again with another weak and rushed ending.

Everything was fine until the ol' switcheroo
The beginning and middle was fine, and I enjoy stories about small towns, witch families and practical, sympathetic magic but then all the sudden it was as if a rug was pulled out from under me and a different story was told and everything "explained" and wrapped up in a bow all in the last couple of hours. Kind of a let down, and super unbelievable as it made the previous set ups and conflicts in beginning of the story seem quite trivial. I probably won't be reading the next in the series unless it is a freebie.
