Forbidden Love + Family Ties + Lovely Narration

I really loved this story. It reminded me a lot of The Little Mermaid, my favorite Disney princess. To this day, I am still obsessed with that story as I find it endearing that the ordinary is so coveted. I also find that overall, that story is just magical. That is how I feel about this story. I love the role the ocean plays, and the sisterly bond of the sirens, and most of all, I love the love story. It was sweet and imperfectly perfect.

Arielle DeLisle did a fantastic job at carrying the story. So gifted! I will definitely seek out more stories narrated by her.

Not the Right Book For Me

The story is for young women. I started it, and the reader's voice seems really young too. I just couldn't go on with it.
I'm sure some may like it. I'm more of a Kate Morton type reader, and just finished Daphne Du Mauier's Rebecca.

Hooked from start to finish

32 years old and loved every minute. I also enjoyed the entire Selection series by this author.

Disappointed

So let me start by saying this is not typically what I read, so maybe the fact that I didn't care much for it just comes down to personal taste.

IMO, thin plot, two dimensional characters, and narration that honestly reminded me of those Barbie PC games I used to play when I was a kid in the 90s. I dont know, the voice is weirdly girly and upbeat, and didn't hold a lot of emotion beyond squealing girly delight and depressed, angsty sobs.

I definitely think I just don't fit the target audience for this book - too young for me, and I'm only 22.

It's the same old Kiera Cass story.

It's the same Keira Cass story, a perfect girl, with a perfect love, who makes perfect decisions at all times pretends her life is hard when everyone around her feigns over her.

Awesome work!

It was a great story and a view into an interesting mythical world, my only complaint is that I wanted more - I think the ending was too abrupt but it was awesome!

Predictable and boring

Seems like 90% of the book just revolves around her depression and pining for the boy. It was boring and no plot twists really. I would have quit listening if it hadn’t been background noise while I worked.

Great Idea, Boring Delivery

I can't believe I went ahead and finished this. It was very predictable and just such a letdown after the other books I have read by the same author- definitely lost her touch on this one. At least the voice for this one wasn't bad.

Not bad, but not great either.

I chose this book because of the positive reviews, and because I am a fan of Kiera Cass's Selection series. I was going to pass on it because of the corny summery, and now I kind of wish I had.
The idea Kiera Cass went with in this book is original to any I've read so far, but it wasn't emotionally appealing to me at all . The connection between the main character and the love interest was decent and sweet, but unfortunately there isn't much more to the love story but a connection. The majority of the book revolves around the main character's angst over not being able to be with her love, who she sociated with slightly. The rest of the characters in the book aren't very interesting. There was just not enough character development in this book for me.
Overall I'd suggest it if you are looking for a light read, because there isn't anything earthshattering about it. The narrator did do a good job though.

Wonderful narrator

I loved Kiera Cass' other books and narrators; but this narrator has a beautiful voice. Just as I would imagine the Sirens in the book.
