Publisher's summary

"Rice is a formidable talent...[Taltos] is a curious amalgam of gothic, glamour fiction, alternate history and high soap opera." (The Washington Post Book World)

"Captivating...Taltos is a wonderful offering...The best she's done....There is a new member of Anne Rice's macabre family of monsters, and he's probably the loneliest, most melancholy creature on earth....Rice keeps the mystic fires burning strong." (The Milwaukee Journal)

"Spellbinding...Mythical...Anne Rice is a pure storyteller." (Cosmopolitan)

"Rice is a stylish writer...What works best throughout the book is the magical collusion of the real and the mythical, the intermingling of the Taltos and witches with ordinary mortals in the present-day world." (New York Newsday)

"Beautifully written." [Kirkus Reviews (starred)]

What can I confess? I'm Ashlar. I'm a Taltos.

It's centuries since I've seen one single other member of my own species. Oh, there have been others. I've heard of them, chased after them, and in some instances almost found them. Mark, I say almost. But not in centuries have I touched my own flesh and blood, as humans are so fond of saying. Never in all this time....

When Ashlar learns that another Taltos has been seen, he is suddenly propelled into the haunting world of the Mayfair family, the New Orleans dynasty of witches forever besieged by ghosts, spirits, and their own dizzying powers. For Ashlar knows this powerful clan is intimately linked to the heritage of the Taltos.

In a swirling universe filled with death and life, corruption and innocence, this mesmerizing novel takes us on a wondrous journey back through the centuries to a civilization half human, of wholly mysterious origin, at odds with mortality and immortality, justice, and guilt. It is an enchanted, hypnotic world that could come only from the imagination of Anne Rice....

Amazing

A very good ending to a ridiculously dark series. Anne Rice are you okay girl?

I enjoyed the 1st two books more than this one.

This book tells the story of the Taltos, but I enjoyed the story behind the Mayfair witches much more. The details are amazing but the Taltos stories are all too similar.

Wish there was more...

I loved this book, I love the entire trilogy. I DO wish Anne had given us a fourth, just the story could go on longer. The narrator miss Redding fabulous!

Thoughts…

It’s hard to live up to book one of the series. The ending could have been different. However the crossover between the Vampire Chronicles/Mayfair Witch Chronicles may give more closure.

I love Anne Rice, this is probably my favorite

What made the experience of listening to Taltos the most enjoyable?

the narator and her voice inflections help.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Taltos?

anytime mary jane mayfair says anything.

What does Kate Reading bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

her voices and changes in tone

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

not sure but it would probably be associated with Mona and her misbehavior

Any additional comments?

wish Anne would have continuted the cross overs with the mayfairs, and the vampire chronicles. bettery yet if she brought the wolves into the same story... or even ramses.... she makes it feel like one world with half mentions that seem to cross levels.

Dare that it should end

I loved this book and the narrator of all 3. There are so many parts of the story I loved, Rowan coming back to life, the struggle in the garden I specially loved the stories of the past. All the characters were the characters of people you won't soon forget. As I came to the end I could barely imagine not knowing if the two Toltos would get together and a new generation born.I strongly recommend this book, it is touching and heartfelt. I will be listening to it again very soon.

Disappointed

I really enjoyed all three books....until the end. I just thought the end was rushed and stupid, with characters going totally against what was previously their way. It was all good until the last chapter, which was only 20 minutes long. It's like the author just got tired of writing and sent the newest characters off on their merry way with no mention of what that would cause for humanity, or what becomes of the main characters that you've grown to care about throughout the trilogy. Seemed odd coming from an author who is so descriptive to wrap this story up so poorly.
