It is a chase that leads to the forbidding planet Dathomir, where an enclave of powerful dark-side Force-wielders will give Vestara the edge she needs to escape - and where the Skywalkers will be forced into combat for their quarry and their lives.
Meanwhile, Han and Leia have completed their own desperate mission, shuttling madness-stricken Jedi from Coruscant to a safe haven in the Transitory Mists and beyond the grasp of Galactic Alliance Chief of State Natasi Daala. But the bold maneuver has intensified Daalas fury, and she is determined to shatter Jedi Order resistance once and for all.

For some it may be the ultimate source of answers crucial to their survival. For others it could be the ultimate weapon of conquest. But for all, it is a game-changing and life-altering encounter of untold magnitude and a tactical gambit with unimaginable consequences.
I really liked the audio-back version of Backlash. March Thompson really helps bring the story to life with his impersonations of the various characters. His Luke Skywalker and Han Solo voices are pretty dead-on and really sound like Mark Hamill and Harrison Ford, making them truly sound like the characters.
His characterizations of the Sith, the Dathomiri, The GA officials, Imperial officials, and other characters give a sense of the story that just reading the book the normal way does not.
I'd highly recommend any Star Wars audiobook who has Marc Thompson as the narrator/character voices.

SPOILER FREE: Marc Thompson was an amazing narrator as always. Production is top notch. All the characters voices are distinct and memorable. Something I wish I could say of the story. Having just finished Fate of the Jedi:Abyss and the second book of the Red Rising Series the week prior. I was excited to dive into a new book. Abyss was an incredible story bringing the mission of the Skywalkers to find out why Darth Caedus came into being. Getting to see my favorite of the Jedi children Anakin Solo even for a second made that book worth it. That story was phenomenal... it was in direct line with the Jedi Lore and helped aid in some understanding into what befell Caedus. I did not finish that series... after the Mara Jade events in Invincible I lost interest. the next two books just werent that great. Honestly after the events of the New Jedi Order Series anything not written by Timothy Zahn pales in comparison.
Other than the fight scene at the Jedi Temple midway... nothing really grabbed my attention.
This is the worst book by Aaron Alston in the star wars universe. I don't believe it to be any fault of his. Just happened to be filler for the story arch. I'm hoping his next will be substantial. It started out decent enough. Political intrigue, pending disaster...then it fell apart. This book is up there with ending of Dark Saber and entire Crystal Star... or should I say down there with them. This book can be skipped. You will miss nothing of note... nothing related to Caedus or the disease ravaging the Jedi. Ben is Anakin Solo's replacement in the Star Wars universe...but no where near as awesome.
Six plot points in the entire book... SPOILERS BELOW but not really if you read the last book...nothing of worth was added
1.) Sith are real.
2.) The rule of two does not apply. I guess they are making a second Khan Army (only conjecture)
3.) Night sisters are force users (you already knew that if you read courtship of princess Leia)
4.) Daala bad. Fell good.
5.) Bucket heads are BAD ARSE but still not Jedi. None even worthy of a name... not kidding
6.) They picked up two people to add to the Skywalker party.
Other than that if you went from the Maw to Dathomir and said... Got who they were chasing... oh snap they have friends END SCENE... you have the entire book important summed up.
Huge waste of time and money. Time is money. I can't have my time back (UNFORTUNATELY). So I guess I'll accept the money.
No Kevin Thompson abridging. Clever Story telling by Mark Thompson. While the first in series remains the best... I enjoyed this as well.
I love these books and wish they were not legend. if you love star wars you l

Author of "Jesus, Take the Wheel" and "Sales Success"
This book and the other books in the Fate of the Jedi series are amazing! Marc Thompson makes everything seem so real. My favorite book, in the series so far, is Abyss! Both are a must read! I'm looking forward to finishing the entire series!
I love the radio drama performance of this series. perfect commute listening. pick it up!
An excellent production and performance as always, and this is perhaps the best paced story so far, with a decent balance of Charector development and action in the star wars universe. Also some great humour through the story which has been lacking so far.
this book like many others by arron was fantastic at creating beautiful and brutall characters and their interactions between one another.
Awesomely Narrated!!! Truly every detail of the story and the fantastic way it is presented. Can turn any syfy lover into a Starbucks Wars fan.
it's a great read that you very mush to enjoy so much.
a well read story out of this world
Narrator excellent as always. Production good. Story dragged on and on. Author paid by the page for this one. But I ploughed on regardless.
Would you listen to Star Wars: Fate of the Jedi: Backlash again? Why?
Yes, a great adventure with great characters and plenty of links back to previous books.
What did you like best about this story?
I liked watching (listening) to Luke learning more and more to trust in Ben's investigative skills and instincts as they try to figure out what Vistara is really up to.
What does Marc Thompson bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?
Marc Thompson is a fantastic narrator giving each character distinction with the voice he uses.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
I would love to have listened to it in one sitting, but I'm not sure I could focus that long! 45 min segments left me wanting more each time.
Any additional comments?
A brilliant book in a brilliant series, the intrigue just keeps growing deeper and a cliffhanger? I need the next one now!
