Publisher's Summary

New York Times best-selling author Mira Grant, author of the renowned Newsflesh series, returns with a novel that takes us to a new world of ancient mysteries and mythological dangers come to life.

The ocean is home to many myths,

But some are deadly....

Seven years ago the Atargatis set off on a voyage to the Mariana Trench to film a mockumentary bringing to life ancient sea creatures of legend. It was lost at sea with all hands. Some have called it a hoax; others have called it a tragedy.

Now a new crew has been assembled. But this time they're not out to entertain. Some seek to validate their life's work. Some seek the greatest hunt of all. Some seek the truth. But for the ambitious young scientist Victoria Stewart, this is a voyage to uncover the fate of the sister she lost.

Whatever the truth may be, it will be found only below the waves.

But the secrets of the deep come with a price.

Great story. A little preachy

This book had me hooked quickly. The author did an excellent job introducing the characters. Scary plot. I wish there was a little less preaching on environmental stuff. The repetitive conversations about it made me hit the skip button a few times. I'm fine with learning about the horrible stuff mankind does to the earth but when the main character has the exact same conversation about saving whales with 4 different people (when it isn't necessary to the plot)...about an hour of this could have been reduced.

Another Excellent book by Mira Grant

Where does Into the Drowning Deep rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This was by far one of the best audio books I have listened to this year. The story held my interest right until the end. It was very suspenseful and the outcome was totally not predicted.I loved the performance by Christine Lakin and although I had the book checked out from the library I found myself listening rather than reading the book!

Another excellent story from Mira Grant

Another fascinating story from Mira Grant, pitting men against the ravages of nature. I have a new respect for the ocean and its creatures. The human story that evolves in the midst of this conflict is also satisfyingly intimate and accurate, leaving the reader hopeful for mankind, but also wary of its great weaknesses.

Christine Lakin is a master narrator. Every one of the many characters has a distinct voice and personality. What a delight.

Paranormal/sci-fi storytelling at its very finest

A bunch of scientists on a research vessel above the Mariana Trench, being attacked by killer mermaids? To some it may sound too crazy but know that this is paranormal/sci-fi storytelling at its very finest. There's the familiar nerdiness of sci-fi and the mythical theme of paranormal, but there's also that special something that takes this story from good to great.

I lost track of the number of characters whose thoughts and ideas I got to follow and each of them had their own distinct voice and part in the story. And in the middle of all the action and craziness, there was still room for relationships to grow and moments where I as a reader got to laugh.

Fantastic

Mira grant took a short story and added to it. I was grabbed from the beginning and was totally enthralled til the end.

The most interesting part I love every book I’ve read that is written under the pen name of Mira grant. I’ve read one under her real name seanan I think it is and I hated it so much I not only didn’t finish it but I returned it

Another Mira Grant masterpiece

It will hook you with it’s claws and drag you down into a well thought out world of monsters.

My only 2 complaints are that the narrative can get kind of confusing because it switches between multiple viewpoints with very little warning. I’m sure it was more clear in the print version, but it’s hard to follow on audio.

The other complaint is that this is actually a sequel to a novella Mira Grant put out in 2015 called “Rolling in the deep.” The first book isn’t available on audible, but it details the first voyage with the Atargatis and I would love to see this novella get released in audiobook format.

Fantastic narration, interesting and intelligent monster story

One of the few monster horrors I’ve read that have actually fulfilled its promise! Intelligent, interesting characters and a plot that—once it began, even if it took some time to get there—kept me listening through the last few hours, wanting to know what happened next. The narrator had some issues with differentiating between voices, sometimes she would slip and it made it hard to tell which person was speaking, but those were few and far between. Overall, wonderful and brilliant! Will definitely give another listen.

Totally worth it!

Deep and compelling characters. Unique premise. Overall amazing story, and the most important thing for a scary story, chilling monsters and a high body count.

Loved it

Love the dedication to science explanation of the method behind the madness. Both human and those lurking in the deep.

Thrilling, fun and gory

I had to stop this every so often to take a break, the closed off spaces with a monster at your heels is one of the things I love/hate to read! This is 100% worth your time!

Thoroughly enjoyable

This is actually my first Mira Grant novel and definitely won't be my last. A very intriguing presence, wonderfully diverse characters and lots of great science to really root the story in fact made for a wonderful read.
The narrator did a great job, with a voice that lulled you into the rhythm of the story. My only complaint would be her Australian accent. As an Aussie, it just pulled me out of the story whenever she used it.

No Fast Forwarding required

This story kept me hooked, intrigued and in suspense. In my opinion there was none of the contrived character development or fudged fillers. What I did find was interesting backstories to people and plot so wonderfully intertwined into a well written story.

Simply awesome.
