Publisher's summary

No light. No air. No escape.

Hundreds of feet beneath the ocean's surface, a graveyard waits. Years ago, the SS Arcadia vanished without a trace during a routine voyage. Though a strange, garbled emergency message was broadcast, neither the ship nor any of its crew could be found. Sixty years later, its wreck has finally been discovered more than three hundred miles from its intended course: a silent graveyard deep beneath the ocean's surface, eagerly waiting for the first sign of life.

Cove and her dive team have been granted permission to explore the Arcadia's rusting hull. Their purpose is straightforward: examine the wreck, film everything, and, if possible, uncover how and why the supposedly unsinkable ship vanished. But the Arcadia has not yet had its fill of death, and something dark and hungry watches from below. With limited oxygen and the ship slowly closing in around them, Cove and her team will have to fight their way free of the unspeakable horror now desperate to claim them.

creepy as Hell

atmospheric, claustrophobic and down right creepy. I was wowed by this one. one of the scariest books that I've ever read

Meh

I love Darcy Coates but I’m not sure what about this book doesn’t grip me. Sure it’s “creepy” but meh. I couldn’t wait to get through it to move on. I’d recommend her other novels over this for sure.

Just ok

The narrator speaks so slowly and so low that I found myself not interested right away, but hoping it would get better. It never did. This book lacked the excitement and suspense that other Coates’ stories have. Not impressed

Pretty Darn Good

Interesting story. Well thought out and gave me goosebumps at just the right moments. I'm also a huge Abby Craden fan, so her performance was a bonus

Dragged

It was just so slow. I found myself not being able to keep characters straight— mostly because I guess I didn’t care anything about them. My mind would wander, just not interested. I had to speed it up and force myself to finish.

The narrator was not my favorite at all. I didn’t like her voices, and they all started to sound alike (which added to not being able to keep them straight).

A solid deep sea horror

My favorite genre of horror is always related to the depths of the ocean. This book delivers! I enjoyed the narrator as well, though at times I thought it was hard to understand certain things spoken, no matter how loud I turned up my volume.
The characters in this book are likable and I was hoping for a happy end for them, even through all the nightmares they experienced. I was surprised at how creepy the descriptions of certain moments and stories physical descriptions could get. I wouldn’t call this the scariest story I’ve ever read, but if you’re not looking to be absolutely torn asunder by misery and fear, but still get some good chills in, I’d definitely recommend giving this a read!

Great Build… Okay Finish

Without spoilers, the book has a great build up. Mixing timelines and using that to tell the story of what your present group is encountering was great. The build up of the threat is great. The final 10% just… kinda tossed all that out the window for an okay finish. Still worth a listen though.
