Publisher's Summary

Cent has a secret. She lives in isolation, with her parents, hiding from the people who took her father captive and tortured him to gain control over his ability to teleport, and from the government agencies who want to use his talent. Cent has seen the world, but only from the safety of her parents' arms. She's teleported more than anyone on Earth, except for her mother and father, but she's never been able to do it herself. Her life has never been in danger. Until the day when she went snowboarding without permission and triggered an avalanche. When the snow and ice thundered down on her, she suddenly found herself in her own bedroom. That was the first time.

    "All the Right Notes"

Good voice for a great first person read. Liked this book better than Jumper and a lot more than Reflex. The main character is very engaging. Her teenager problems are nicely balanced against problems of the adult world, and best of all, the bad guys in this book are credible characters.

    "Seriously amazing"

It's a weird combination of all the teen girl novels that are huge these days (Hunger Games, Twilight, etc) and the previous 2 Jumper's. Lots less gross bodily functions, lots more emotional high school girls, but altogether, a seriously wonderful (if sometimes predictable - nothing's wrong with a bit of predictability) follow-up to Reflex.

I was a bit leery of the narrator at first (I hate when a series isn't consistent with its narrators), but since 2/3 of the novel is from a female PoV, it wouldn't have made much sense to get Macleod Andrews to do it, and I think this might be my favorite non-Kate Reading female narrator, now, so it worked out.

    "Definitely a Teen book, however..."
What do you think the narrator could have done better?

Don't know who edited the rough copy of the book, but there are a HUGE amount of breathes....between sentences, in the middle of character dialogue...and so on... It's a pretty big distraction.

"The Jumper series continues with more excitement"
Would you listen to Impulse again? Why?

I'd listen to it again so that I could pay attention to more details.

What other book might you compare Impulse to and why?

The other books in this series.

Have you listened to any of Emily Rankin’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

    Haven't listened to any others.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No, because I wanted to have time to think about what I was hearing.

    Any additional comments?

Listening to this book made me hope that Gould writes another in the series.

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

Not for me:. I have no interest in how a 15 year old girl adjusts to public school.

If you’ve listened to books by Steven Gould before, how does this one compare?

The first two books in this series vere excellent.

    "where's the vampires?"
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

    8th grade girls.

Would you ever listen to anything by Steven Gould again?

    maybe

What does Emily Rankin bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I can see why they used a woman narrator for this book, but it took some getting used to since the first two books were read by a man.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Impulse?

    the kissing parts

    Any additional comments?

When did this series turn into Twilight books? Did the target audience just switch to 13 year old girls? And the story was boring compared to the other two in the series. Very disappointed.

"Another great book in the Jumper series!"
If you could sum up Impulse in three words, what would they be?

    Fun, exciting, fast paced

Which character – as performed by Emily Rankin – was your favorite?

I thoroughly enjoyed the main character.

    Any additional comments?

I would recommend this book, and in fact the whole series, to anyone. Way better than the JUMPER movie. All the books have been fun, fresh, interesting and compelling.

    "Great continuation of Jumper"
Would you consider the audio edition of Impulse to be better than the print version?

There is no difference between the 2, but i prefer the on the go option. With the audio book i can multitask and get work done while listening to the great story.

What did you like best about this story?

Great continuation of the Jumper series. Steven Gould does a great job of making me like Cent and her story. Can't wait for the next book!!

What does Emily Rankin bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I like the other reader more, but Emily did a great job reading as Cent, and it made more sense having a female voice, from the perpective of Cent.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Pretty much, finished the book within 2 days after i got it.

    "Fantastic"
What made the experience of listening to Impulse the most enjoyable?

Impulse is a return to the universe of Jumper and Reflex. Jumper is a favorite book of mine and I really enjoyed impulse as well. It was fantastic to meet these characters again - and to meet a new one, Cent, who I think is the strongest of the bunch.

This book is funny, exciting, well written and well narrated. Emily Rankin does a stellar job bringing the characters to life, most especially Cent.

    Highly recommended.

What other book might you compare Impulse to and why?

    Reflex and Jumper

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

    Much better than Jumper.

"Mr Gould, you really need to crank up the speed!"

I first discovered Steven Gould’s Jumper Series from one of Audible's sales. I really liked the first two installments, but I found the second book "Reflex" a tough read since it took me to some really dark places. The third book "Impulse" is more like the first book and a very enjoyable listen. I would have preferred if they had kept Macleod Andrews for Davys voice and let Emily do Milly and Cent (she does an excellent job, but for me it was a bit distracting). Although the book is a coming-of-age story of many sorts, I still found it intriguing. It was with some dread I listened to the book since I kept waiting for the other shoe to drop, but I am satisfied how things plays out.

Regarding my choice of headline... Come on, Mr. Gould. Three Jumper-books in more than two decades, I am sure you could cut the time between books in half. :)
