Publisher's Summary

The second thrilling installment of the award-winning Nevernight Chronicle, from New York Times best-selling author Jay Kristoff.

In a land where three suns almost never set, a ruthless assassin continues her quest for vengeance against the powers who destroyed her family.

Mia Corvere has found her place among the Blades of Our Lady of Blessed Murder, but many in the Red Church hierarchy think she's far from earned it. Plying her bloody trade in a backwater of the Republic, she's no closer to ending the men who destroyed her familia; in fact she's told directly that Consul Scaeva is off limits. But after a deadly confrontation with an old enemy, Mia's suspicions about the Red Church's true motives begin to grow.

When it's announced that Scaeva will be making a rare public appearance at the conclusion of the grand games in Godsgrave, Mia defies the Church and sells herself to a gladiatorial collegium for a chance to finally end him. Upon the sands of the arena, Mia finds new allies, bitter rivals, and more questions about her strange affinity for the shadows. But as conspiracies unfold within the collegium walls and the body count rises, Mia will be forced to choose between love and revenge and uncover a secret that could change the very face of her world.

Holy Moly, buckle up Dorothy ...

Any additional comments?

As other reviewers have pointed out, the second book syndrome strikes in many trilogies. Not so for Godsgrave. New characters, new locations, new intrigues, new bad guys ... oh, wait, bad guys are now good guys? Lots of fun snark between Mr. Kindly and Eclipse. And holy moly, the head spinning twists will leave you wondering what you just read (heard). Mr. Kristoff left me breathless at the end. I want Book 3, now!

Can’t wait for the next in the series

A great blend of suspense, action and a little steamy sex. The action scenes are pretty graphic. I enjoy it, as I think cringing at some of the scenes adds to the experience of the book. I also like that the main characters are not one dimensional. The protagonists have their character flaws and even a few of the villains have their redeeming qualities.

🙌🏼👌🏼

Surprisingly good series so far. The narrator bugged me for a bit in the first book of the series but much better this time around. Great plot twists!

Great second book for Nevernight Chronicle!

Jay Kristoff has kept the series going in an excellent second book. The twists and turns kept me constantly wondering. I really had a hard time doing anything else but listen to this story, mostly with hands clenched! Holter Graham does quite well in his narration and I hope he continues to be the voice of the next book.
I don't feel like I am opposed to sex scenes in a book but they were a little long and graphic in this book. I can't recall them being quite like this in the first book. I think the Nevernight Chronicle would make a great series for HBO or Starz! Mia is left thinking she has gotten what she wanted and we are left with the return of a couple of characters. Can't wait till the next book!

A Masterful Sequel

Sequels are always tricky; if the first book is amazing, there are high expectations for the second book that aren't always met. This book far and away meets expectations and then some. It builds on the first book and twists and turns and surprises in masterful ways. How one will wait until next Sept 2019 for the last book, I'm not sure, so savor this listen, gentle friends, it's a gripping ride.

This has been a really good series, so far. Action, mystery, surprises and just a little sexy time. Just can't stand the narrator.

Loved the book. The narrator does a fantastic job with telling us the story. The story itself is phenomenal.
