Publisher's summary

In the second volume of The Black Knight Chronicles, vampire detectives Jimmy Black and Greg Knightwood investigate a series of assaults plaguing the alleys of Charlotte. Along the way they battle trolls, bigotry, fairies, dragons, and small minds on the way to a knock-down battle royal inside a steel cage. The boys find themselves fighting evil in alleys, trolls in bars, and dragons in FairyLand and trying to scrub the sparkle off after a battle with vicious fae in the hall of the fairy queen.

Yeah, really. All that and vampires, too.

If you like Harry Dresden, you'll like this

This is a fast moving funny vampire detective series. Nice sense of the absurd and teen-geekdom.

Snarky!

snark-fest, urban-fantasy, action-adventure, vampire, fae
Another winner. The hero and his sidekick are vampire working with human detective Sabrina of the Charlotte PD whose cousin has been horribly injured by an unknown supernatural creature. Bad movie quotes and lots of snarks pepper this violence filled yet fun fast moving tale populated by trolls, changelings, and even a dragon as they track a menace in their city. A truly engaging book with a glitch or two, but still a fun read.
Russo does a great job!

laugh out loud, geeky vampires

Would you consider the audio edition of Back in Black to be better than the print version?

This is a fun series and it doesn't require a lot of attention or concentration. Some series are too detailed and requires you to give all your concentration to it. You can listen to this while you are cooking or doing house chores and still get the over all view of things. I love all of Hartness' modern day cultural references such as Star Wars and Buffy the Vampire Slayer. It's super fun and lots of laugh. if you're looking for more intellectual boring books then these aren't the droids you're looking for. if you just need a few hours to relax and not think too much then I recommend this highly.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Back in Black?

the cultural reference such as dungeons and Dragons and Star war quotes. I love people that totally geek out on Star Wars and aren't ashamed of it!

Which character – as performed by Nick J. Russo – was your favorite?

I love Lilith the skin tight clothing wearing bitch who seduces anything and everything with a heartbeat.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventures meets Buffy the Vampire

Any additional comments?

Get the whole series if you haven't already gotten it! Use the Force!

Fast paced adventures continue

I will personally love John Hartness forever for making a hero of a chubby, geeky vampire. These books are fun, give great action, and feature a lovable crew of characters. The author's particular vision of a contemporary supernatural world is interesting to watch unfold. I look forward to more!

a day in the life of an ordinary vampire

I am very fond of our ordinary anti-heroes. James and Greg are trying to make the best of a bad lot, but they aren't shiny or brilliant or gorgeous. They know they are over - matched in the supernatural arena and act like it. They have the sardonic sense of humor they would have as teenagers raised in the 90s, complete with video game references. I like their nods to pop culture, including mentioning Buffy and Kalayna Price 's Grave Witch series, which is one of my favorites. You can imagine Harry Dresden meeting them in a dark alley and not knowing what to do with them, and deciding to play a game of dungeons and dragons over a scotch.

Snarky sequel

Any additional comments?

I really like the nerdy duo concept in this series. Fun characters with pretty good story lines. The only complaint I have is the shortness of the story. Looking forward to the next installment.
