Publisher's Summary

For generations the solar system--Mars, the moon, the asteroid belt--was humanity's great frontier. Until now. The alien artefact working through its program under the clouds of Venus has emerged to build a massive structure outside the orbit of Uranus: a gate that leads into a starless dark.

Jim Holden and the crew of the Rocinante are part of a vast flotilla of scientific and military ships going out to examine the artefact. But behind the scenes, a complex plot is unfolding, with the destruction of Holden at its core. As the emissaries of the human race try to find whether the gate is an opportunity or a threat, the greatest danger is the one they brought with them.

    Story
    "Another enjoyable romp"

Another enjoyable romp from Corey’s “Expanse” series. Our heroes, Jim Holden and the crew of the Rocinante, have new problems – as if the proto-molecule and all it has been creating weren’t enough already! This 3rd novel of the series sometimes lacked the break-neck pace of the earlier books, but there are nice plot developments, new characters to introduce and of course lots of action sequences. Same narrator, Jefferson Mays, as 1st two books – he does a good job.

    Any additional comments?

Although, in my opinion, it is not as good as the first two books, Abaddon's Gate is great continuation of the series. The Authors continue to flesh out their universe and developed well thought out characters. I eagerly await the next installment.

Loved the story, some overtones of space odyssey with Miller character, but overall excellent and well narrated . I would recommend.

    "Pure escapist adventure"

I love this series. It employs a lot of well-trodden fictional story ground but it does so with a knowing confidence that reels you in and doesn't let go.

    "Less substantial than usual?"

This book felt a bit drawn out versus others in the series, but still an interesting part of the expanse universe.

    Story
    "Abandons gate"

It's a good story, a continuation of the journey of some good characters with real emotions. What I like about these books is that everything is realistic and explained well, without having to have a degree in Astro physics to understand. It was well read, and to be fair to Jefferson Mays he has done a good consistent job through the series so far. I sometimes struggle with American accents, but he does well. Next book on download as I type......

    Story
    "Ran out of steam"

Loved the first two books, but this one just drags on and on with very little actually happening. The overarching story is fine, but the filler is excessive and sometimes embarrassingly poorly written. "He was hoping X would happen, except that he wasn't". Don't think I will continue with this series.

    "Excellent, better than book 2"
If you could sum up Abaddon's Gate in three words, what would they be?

    Old-school space opera

What did you like best about this story?

The scale of things feel bigger, more important. And some awesome new ideas are introduced as the story's universe expands. And as always, new lovable characters.
