Publisher's Summary

For generations the solar system--Mars, the moon, the asteroid belt--was humanity's great frontier. Until now. The alien artefact working through its program under the clouds of Venus has emerged to build a massive structure outside the orbit of Uranus: a gate that leads into a starless dark.

Jim Holden and the crew of the Rocinante are part of a vast flotilla of scientific and military ships going out to examine the artefact. But behind the scenes, a complex plot is unfolding, with the destruction of Holden at its core. As the emissaries of the human race try to find whether the gate is an opportunity or a threat, the greatest danger is the one they brought with them.

Too much internal struggle

I love this series, but I’d say book 3 had too much of an internal struggle

I am so glad that the TV show made me aware of this series, they are both really great and the science parts are really interesting.

Another enjoyable romp

Another enjoyable romp from Corey’s “Expanse” series. Our heroes, Jim Holden and the crew of the Rocinante, have new problems – as if the proto-molecule and all it has been creating weren’t enough already! This 3rd novel of the series sometimes lacked the break-neck pace of the earlier books, but there are nice plot developments, new characters to introduce and of course lots of action sequences. Same narrator, Jefferson Mays, as 1st two books – he does a good job.

The Expanse Series Continues to Impress.

Any additional comments?

Although, in my opinion, it is not as good as the first two books, Abaddon's Gate is great continuation of the series. The Authors continue to flesh out their universe and developed well thought out characters. I eagerly await the next installment.

Could not stop listening .

Loved the story, some overtones of space odyssey with Miller character, but overall excellent and well narrated . I would recommend.

Roll on Book 4

To be honest..I am just hooked into the characters especially of Holden,Niaomi,Amos and Alex.Though I think I would like to see more layers to the character of both Amos and Alex. After 3 books they should be more than supporting cast to the Holden/Niaomi Show. That said,I am here for the long journey these 4 are on...I hope they all survive.

A very good listen

What did you like most about Abaddon's Gate?

The narration, and the development of the characters.

Which scene did you most enjoy?

Clarissa Mao. Girl is insane.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Yes, but it involved a death so I'm saying nothing...

Any additional comments?

The third book of the Expanse, it continues the overreaching plot began in Leviathan Wakes, and continued in Caliban's War, of the proto molecule and what it was created to do. Though not quite as good as the other books, Abaddon's Gate is still excellent, and Jefferson Mays is, as always, excellent. This series is a must for sci fi fans everywhere.

Great narration

Even better than the first book the series. Feels like he's hitting his stride. Love where the story is going. A brooding menace on the horizon, much like GoT's White Walkers.
Narrator, Jefferson, has been SLAYING it on these stories.
Have to say his delivery of the Indian UN official, 'Avasarala' has been outstanding.
Brilliant story enhanced by great voice performance.

Finished in 2 days

If you could sum up Abaddon's Gate in three words, what would they be?

This was a great continuation of the first 2 books. Overall it was a great book to listen to. I think it's probably the best book so far, but it was a little slow at parts.

More of a great thing!!

The Expanse series by Corey has entrenched itself as my number 1 series and hasn't let off with this installment. The story continues on an upward trajectory, literally, to the furthest reaches. Strongly suggest getting onboard from book 1, if you already have...you don't need me to tell you how good it is.

Jefferson Mays is at his best again! really brings every character to life with his captivating tone, cadence and nuance.

wow.

I wan't sure if I loved this series and it's author's writing style or if I was just enjoying it's wonderful idea's. Turns out it is both.
It is excellent. A universe that seems huge, scary and exciting. A solar system that is palpable. Filled with, and run by, humanity and our fears, greed and compssion. Characters that are immensely human and real.
i like it so much I wrote a review. i have never done this before.
