Even a once-in-a-lifetime love...

When Halston Parker calls his daughter Caitlin to his deathbed, she's shocked to discover that her ex-husband, Dex Madaris, has been summoned as well. It's been four years since Caitlin felt the heat of Dex's touch, the urgency of his kisses and the promise of an everlasting love that never was. As a flood of bittersweet memories warms a cold and lonely night, Halston's real motive for the unexpected reunion comes to light. As does the daughter Dex never knew existed, a secret Caitlin has kept too long from the only man she's ever loved. A secret she fears Dex will never forgive.

....Deserves a second chance

Despite the past, Caitlin and Dex cannot resist the attraction, or fight their hunger to renew a once-in-a-lifetime passion they thought they'd lost forever. As each learns a lesson in faith and trust, they discover that no heartache, no betrayal, is strong enough to withstand the enduring power of true love.

Really enjoyed.

It would be great if a male and female collaboration were done on the romance novels.

DISAPPOINTED

This is a good book but the audio version is bordering on bad. It is so-so. What happened to Shari Peele, she did a great job on your audio books. This guy Pete is ruining your audio versions. He is getting better, but don't let him practice on your books. I am so excited you have done the Madaris family on audible, but he ruined the experience for me. He does some of the voices OK, but overall it is just not good.

The book is typical Brenda Jackson, which I enjoy most of her books. Dex finally learns the truth about his an ex-wife, well the wife he thought was his ex-wife: the divorce, and that he has a daughter. Dex had pretty much given up on love and marriage. The betrayal, he thought had turned him into another person. One that would not allow him to fall in love again. After the death of Caitlin's father and the truth is revealed, his love is restored, and he is once again able to be the man he was before. It's a good book to get you away for a few hours. It is not intense, just a calm book. I admit it I am easy to please if I can walk away with a smile. I don't read a straight up romance if I want suspense and a lot of drama. If you are looking for just a romance book then you should enjoy this one. It has some twist and turns and a hit of drama, BUT Pete is not high on the narrator scale. I truly hope he gets better I would hate to stop buying Ms. Jackson's book because of him.

Decent Book. Narration Not So Great

When the narrator does the straight narration vs the the individual characters, he wins. He has a very nice voice when not reading the individual dialogue. His speech is clear and flows smoothly.

The individual character narration leaves so much to be desired, it takes me out of the story. The Dex Madaris' narration does not flow as a conversation. Every single word is so distinct, it sounds like a script is being read. There are also two words the narrator reads, that I am unsure if he using a dialect, or if mispronunciation is the real culprit. He repeatedly says "thing" and "can't" as "thang" and "cain't. It is disconcerting, as almost everything else he is reading is so precise. Clayton Madaris sounds goofy. I won't waste my time going through each character.

The story was interesting. Dex seemed to blow hot and cold. He was arrogant, unforgiving, and irritating through a good part of the beginning of the book. To hold something against a 21 year old, fresh out of college, experiencing an intense romance with a man 11 years her senior, really speaks to Dex's character, and not favorably.

Caitlin was too excepting of the games he was playing. She seemed a little desperate. There is a bit of suspense and intrigue. Caitlin and Dex eventually work through their issues to reach their HEA.

One of My Favorites!!!

This has always been one of my favorite books by Brenda Jackson! Due to moving, I'm not sure where the actual book is.....thus I decided to accept the free trial for Audible. The narrator was amazing. I love the way he took me inside of the story. His voice had a nice, deep timbre. His inflections were great! I love the way he did the character voices! The last book I listened to was just okay. I would listen to another book narrated by Pete Ohms.

excellent series

Where does Whispered Promises rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I have read the entire series and this book ranked 2nd of the 3 brothers.

What does Pete Ohms bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Loved his voice he does justice to the story. Some of his pronouncement of words are plural when no "s" is needed, however he has beautiful intonation.

This is a wonderfully written love story of how forgiveness frees your heart in so many ways. The characters were well written.

Peter Ohms-narrator

I gave re-read this book twice. Hearing Peter narrate this book was like listening to a movie. I really like the versatility of his voice. Especially when he does the voice of the male lead. Yeah I'm hearing Maderis swagger all up in my head. I tried listening to other narrators - male and female - Peter is the man with the voice
