Publisher's Summary

Darkness covers the north since the black mage has begun his assault on the kingdom of Neroche. Legend has it that only the two magical swords held by Neroche's king can defeat the mage. Now the fate of the Nine Kingdoms rests in the hands of a woman destined to wield one of those blades....

In this land of dragons and mages, warrior maids, and magical swords, nothing is as it seems. And Morgan will find that the magic in her blood brings her troubles she cannot face with a sword - and a love more powerful than she has ever imagined.

Simple to follow

Easy to follow. Characters well developed. The world wasn't too fleshed out and story is slowly developed. The romance part was subtle and sweet but not nauseating. Excellent read for teens and young adults.

Nine Kingdoms

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

I have loved this story for years. Absolutely could not stand narration.

Would you be willing to try another one of Laura Jennings’s performances?

I would never buy another book narrated by this performer.

One of my favorite series, but terrible narration

I love these books and have been waiting for them to be available in audio for years. I was so excited to see this one and immediately bought it and pre-ordered the next one. I almost couldn't finish it.

I love Miach and was really looking forward to him being brought to life in audio, but the narration was terrible. The narrator's voice is flat and stilted and mostly emotionless. She pauses in the middle of every sentence which makers it hard to listen to. I love the story so I finished it anyway. I've read the books numerous times because I love visiting this world, but I don't think I'll be able to listen to this a second time.

I really hope the narration is better for the second book.

My favorite of her 9 kingdom series

What did you love best about Star of the Morning?

The interactions of the main characters

What was one of the most memorable moments of Star of the Morning?

There are many.

Which character – as performed by Laura Jennings – was your favorite?

All of the characters

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Just glad it was finally out in audio. I look forward to listening to more in this series. Morgan's comments about the king (who was under cover through part of the book) were pretty funny.

Any additional comments?

Lynn Kurland's fantasy series runs in trilogies. This is the first one. I highly recommend it if you like fantasy, strong female characters, romance, and lots of action.

Love the author and story, not the narrator

I was so excited to see this series start to show up on Audible but I can't say that I care for the narration. The narrator is almost monotone and doesn't really narrate in a manner that allows the listener to differentiate between the characters. I've read this book so many times I do okay but others may have an issue. I hope Lynn Kurland picks a different narrator for future books.
