Publisher's Summary

Known to the K2 Special Services team as Romeo, ex-Navy SEAL Jake Buchanan may spend his downtime living up to his nickname, but there's one woman who sets his heart racing like no one else can: Maria Kincaid. Unfortunately, his boss - her brother - has made it crystal clear that she's off-limits. Jake doesn't do commitment, while Maria is the type of woman who deserves a promise of forever. Yet Maria finds herself drawn to Jake, the man who stares at her with a desire she wishes he'd act on.

Still haunted by her horrific childhood, Maria goes searching for the father she's never met - and stumbles into a nightmarish experience. With her life in grave danger, she reaches out to Jake, her brother's second-in-command. Jake figures he can help Maria without giving in to temptation. But some things are easier said than done.

Great Series

I liked this story a lot. I only have 1 complaint. The hero tries to drive his love away with some pretty harsh words. She forgave him too easily, imo. She should have made him grovel!!

Someone Doesn't Like Herself

Since I enjoyed the first book in this series, I had high hopes for Someone Like Her. Sadly, law student Maria didn't like herself, which made it difficult to engage with her character.

Likewise, ex-SEAL Jake was a macho, selfish player without much respect for women or himself. While not actually violent toward Maria, his domineering actions were annoying and immature rather than romantic or sexy.

It was disappointing and boring that an intelligent young woman had so little self confidence and that Jake was more cavemen than hero. This story might be exciting to a teen but not interesting for mature readers/listeners.

Pet peeve: neither her SEAL brother or his friends taught Maria any self-defense or protection techniques, so she constantly needed to be saved like a child.

Thoughts

I thought the story was good but the narration was not. I can't explain exactly what it was.

His voice was a cross between anchorman Bill Curtis and Ward Cleaver from Leave It To Beaver.

Enjoyable story but terrible narration

The story was entertaining but I hated the female narration- too nasal and just plain annoying.
