Audible Editor Reviews

Why we think it's Essential - The Molly Harper/Amanda Ronconi pairing has become the stuff of Audible legend, and it all started with this book. If you ever feel like the vampire romance genre has all gotten a little bit too serious and swooning for its own good, this is the perfect antidote. The kick-off to the delightfully quirky and laugh-out-loud funny Nice Girls;... series, as well as an equally popular spin-off series, this book has been a non-stop hit with our listeners. — Emily

Publisher's Summary

Maybe it was the Shenanigans gift certificate that put her over the edge. When children's librarian and self-professed nice girl Jane Jameson is fired by her beastly boss and handed $25 in potato skins instead of a severance check, she goes on a bender that's sure to become Half Moon Hollow legend. On her way home, she's mistaken for a deer, shot, and left for dead. And thanks to the mysterious stranger she met while chugging neon-colored cocktails, she wakes up with a decidedly unladylike thirst for blood.

Jane is now the latest recipient of a gift basket from the Newly Undead Welcoming Committee, and her life-after-lifestyle is taking some getting used to. Her recently deceased favorite aunt is now her ghostly roommate. She has to fake breathing and endure daytime hours to avoid coming out of the coffin to her family. She's forced to forgo her favorite down-home Southern cooking for bags of O negative. Her relationship with her sexy, mercurial vampire sire keeps running hot and cold. And if all that wasn't enough, it looks like someone in Half Moon Hollow is trying to frame her for a series of vampire murders. What's a nice undead girl to do?

Love in vein: bite into more of Jane Jameson's paranormal exploits.

"Southern hospitality meets the undead. Perfect!"
If you could sum up Nice Girls Don't Have Fangs in three words, what would they be?

    Satire, witty, humor

What other book might you compare Nice Girls Don't Have Fangs to and why?

No other books in the vampire/romance genre compare. This book is in a leauge of its own. No matter if you loved or hated other series like twilight, you will appreciate the way that this book is able to poke fun at the entire gere in a light and amusing way.

What does Amanda Ronconi bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

love her voice. perfectly accented. She pulls off the sarcasm and wit without being whiney

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

i think the title is enough of a tag line

    "It's a sit-com that's what it is."

I am not at all sure that I would want to listen to another book from the Jane Jameson books. It is kind of entertaining and I do not think it is bad. I just feel like I am listening to a sit com about a newly made vampire, her sire, her best friend ext. the thing is I find myself waiting for a laugh track. there are some funny moments but there are lots of times I feel the author is trying too hard and is missing the mark. I seriously could see this as a TV series and some people would like it a lot. I am very picky about sit- coms I would compare "Nice Girls Don't have fangs" to "New Girl" as a vampire

    "Great Listen"

A light, quick moving tale of vamps and werewolves, overlaid with snarky southern wit and charm. The performance was excellent, lending the proper southern twang without making me want to strangle her. Unless she was doing a character that needed to be strangled, of course!

    "cute"
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?

It was cute, but predictable. I understand it's the first in a series, so it leaves you hanging.

What was most disappointing about Molly Harper’s story?

It was a bit childish, except for the sex.

    Any additional comments?

the author has an original perspective on a vampires life.

What did you love best about Nice Girls Don't Have Fangs?

This light read is strong on humor and characterization. Jane is extremely likable and engaging.

What other book might you compare Nice Girls Don't Have Fangs to and why?

This story is a bit like the Sookie Stackhouse series, but it's funnier and lighter.

    Which scene was your favorite?

I was hooked from the scene at the bar where Jane is drowning her sorrows in electric blue lemonades.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Love this series. I've always liked vampire books but really this is the best ever. It's different in so many ways. It has everything. She covers the southern ways in such a way that it almost seems like home. The family dynamics are so funny.
