"Narration is Fantastic in this Regency Spy Series!"
    Any additional comments?

My Earl the Spy by Audrey Harrison is an adventurous historical clean romance set during the Regency period and the Napoleonic Wars. While the romance in this second book is subtle, there are multiple scenes with action, adventure, and near-death experiences for our heroes.

The story centers around Henry Howarth, the Earl of Grinstead, who is secretly a spy for king and country and who is tasked with discovering who may be disloyal to the crown. To track down a particularly dangerous criminal, Henry obtains the assistance of Millie Holland, who is the cousin to one of Henry's close associates. However, the criminal is privy to Millie’s involvement and soon kidnaps her and treats her not so tenderly. Henry is distressed at the result his actions brought to Millie and after they escape, he protects Millie and nurses her back to health, falling in love in the process.

While I really appreciated Millie’s strong character and the slow development of Henry’s feelings toward Millie, the dialog is a bit jilted at times and unrealistic. However, the narration by Melanie Fraser really helped. Melanie did a fantastic job and really brought the characters to life, giving each character their own distinct voice. Melanie's crisp British accent and soft refined tones were perfect for this audio and really contributed to my enjoyment of this book. I look forward to listening to Melanie in other audiobooks.

"A very likable traditional Regency romance"

Quite a bit of adventure is involved as Henry and Millie come to know who each other truly is and what their feelings are.

The performance really enhanced the story. Subtle voice changes helped flesh out the characters. I always wonder how they can come up with a different voice for so many people.

Well, I think I'm ready for another book by the same author performed by the same reader.

    "Surprise Story"
What did you love best about My Earl the Spy?

The manner in which they fell in love.

What did you like best about this story?

    This is the same question.

Have you listened to any of Melanie Fraser’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No, but this was an excellent performance. The story moved along at a good pace and the narrator added lots of depth to the story.

    Any additional comments?

I got this ARC via audiobook boom. I was surprised that I enjoyed this story. It had enough twists to keep me listening to the end. I spent a pleasant evening listening to this book.

    "Fast paced regency romance/adventure"

I received a copy from the narrator but all opinions are my own.

This is my first of The Spy Series by Audrey Harrison and narrated by Melanie Fraser. My Earl the Spy is second title in the series.

It was a delightful ride from start to finish, proper tea parties and afternoon calls alongside kidnapping and spying. Some nice tidbits of English history during the Napoleonic wars as well.
I definitely want to explore the rest of the series to learn more of the periphery characters in this story.
The intrepid herione, Miss Millicent Holland, is about to give up her position as companion to her cousin whose nuptials are quickly approaching. She has begun a search for new employment but all plans are disrupted when she agrees to help Henry, Earl of Grinstead, by drawing a picture of the spy he is in pursuit of to be distributed over London. Danger and misadventure abound after this event and Milly must use all her wits to survive and realize her true feelings for Henry along the way.

Melanie Fraser did an admirable job in her narration of the story on Audible. There was a diversity of characters, male and female, and I never once was confused at who was speaking. She brought Milly to life as a lady of spunk as well as manners and gave Henry a masculine quality that did credit to an aristocrat. Her pacing of the story and dramatic timing was flawless and kept me listening even when I should have been doing other things.

All around a highly enjoyable regency romance with some thrilling action along the way. Highly recommend for lovers of the genre.

"A good narration of a delightful romantic suspense"

This is a book I have read before and before starting on the audible version was a little unsure if the narration would live upto the tightly woven narrative of the story. Thankfully the narrator avoids the inflections and tones of melodrama. A beautifully narrated book.

My Earl the Spy is a lovely, entertaining story about a spinster who finds her true love, but first they most both face a bout of danger. Henry and Millicent are darling. I found myself pulling for both of them as I listened to this delightful audiobook. The story is well-written; although, some of the situations Millie finds herself in would have destroyed her reputation easily. Word would have gotten out; it always gets out. Still, I enjoyed listening to this story as much as I did with the first book in the series.

One of the things that makes this story stand out is the narration. Melanie Fraser does an exceptional job with the narration, forming distinct voices for each and every character. Her delivery is smooth and very easy on the ears.

I look forward to listening to other books by this narrator and reading other books by the author.

I received this book as a gift from the narrator, and I thank her for her kindness. Her generosity has had no influence on my review of this book. All opinions expressed are my own.

"A Regency romance with a little bit of suspence..."
Would you consider the audio edition of My Earl the Spy to be better than the print version?

As I haven't read the print version I can't compare the two but I like the audiobook version a lot. Ms Fraser is a very good narrator, able to keep the listener's interest in the story thanks to her acting abilities, among other things. She is convincing as male characters and very good at reading the females' parts. I especially liked the character of Milly in Ms Fraser's interpretation - she sounded an amiable person I would really like to meet and befriend.

I also liked the background sounds a lot, they were a nice touch - ballroom music, neighing horses - they added the feel of reality to the experience.

What did you like best about this story?

Well, the answer will demand some spoilers...:)
The plot of the book is quite intriguing. It opens with a quarrel between the two main characters, which is a good starting point as it makes the reader / listener wonder what will happen to make the two finally come together and how they will reach their happy ending. And although the idea of the main villain kidnapping the heroine is not a new one, this storyline is executed in a very nice way, keeping up the tension when the hero turns out to be held up, too:)
I also liked the main characters, especially Milly - she is a strong woman in her own rights, able to make loyal friends and overcome obstacles that life throws in her face.

    Which scene was your favorite?

    Spoilers again...:)
I liked the ending part a lot, when Henry takes care of Milly during her recovery... It's such a romantic notion that he is the one who brings her back to the world of the living:) I know that his behaviour and the fact that he is allowed to do what he does is completely against the social rules of the times, still... it's a really romantic and fitting ending to their love story:)

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Don't let true love pass you by just because you're scared to open your heart to it...

    "Loved, loved, loved it!"
    Any additional comments?

Audrey Harrison and Melanie Fraser have teamed up again to deliver another great regency romance listen! This book takes place exactly where the first book ends but it isn't necessary to have listened to book one.

I loved the relationship that developed between Milly and her lord. (The road to true love never runs smooth.) The two main characters were (well, became) a delightful couple. I especially enjoyed Milly's backstory (which had not been explored in book one) and I thought her redemption was perfect.

This is the end of the spy series (tear drop) but if that's to be the case, the epilogue in this book wrapped up things rather nicely.

I will miss this series so much...

"All you would expect of a Regency Romance"

Audrey Harrison has written the quintessential Regency romance without the usual high society season full of frilly debutants. It ticks most of the expected boxes with a "shelved" woman of elegance and wit, a Lord with masculine pursuits including being a spy, a little intrigue and action, a kidnapping, chemistry between the two protagonists, a broken engagement and a little misunderstanding. Commencing where the previous book in the series ended, this book focuses on Millie and Henry, two interesting and rather dynamic personalities. (Perhaps that is what makes them work so well together.) I think reading/listening to the first book would be advisable, though not necessary, to clarify the connections between many of the characters and provide the back story that leads to the events in this one.

I enjoyed listening to the book. It was a rather chaste read by modern standards, though the reputations of several characters would have been comoletely ruined if the events in this book became public knowledge during the Regency era. Millie's character challenges the socially acceptable woman of that era. She is smart, hardworking, brave, calm and strong. It is her strength that gives the book substance and makes the story a worthwhile experience.

This book was given to me for free at my request and I provided this voluntary review.

"I'm very happy to recommend this"

I am loving this series by the skilled author, Audrey Harrison and the most entertaining narration by the very entertaining narrator, Melanie Fraser. Such a talented pair.
The Earl, Henry, has his heart firmly locked away but as the story unfolds he show glimpses of a warm and loving heart.
Milli, a lady of 28 years of age, is a loving and caring person who has lost all hope of finding a husband and has resigned herself to this.
Henry and Milli meet again (they also appear in book 1 of this series) and the sparks begin to fly. She isn't willing to settle for second best and he is being over-cautious with his heart.
This is a beautiful and heart-warming story about how two people fall in love.
I hope you enjoy this book/audiobook as much as I have. It is a great pairing up of the skills of author and narrator and I am very happy to recommend it.
I was voluntarily provided a review copy of the audiobook at no charge by the author, publisher and/or narrator and this is my unbiased review.

    Any additional comments?

I read the first book and loved it. So I jumped at the chance to listen to the next in the series when I saw the audio book.

I didn't really like Henry in the first book and I didn't like him at the beginning of the next book. I felt like slapping him at times, however as the book progressed he changes.
I really liked Millicent and felt sorry for her at times. But showed that she is a strong character and I love how she dealt with certain people in the story.

I would recommend this book to all since there is no bad language or sexual content with some mild violence.

Would you listen to My Earl the Spy again? Why?

Yes, I would absolutely listen to this again. I loved the two main characters, the suspense and intrigue. Also, the narration was excellent. I always enjoy books performed by Melanie Fraser and I am enjoying this series immensely. Her voice really suits this genre and she is a very easy listen.

Which scene did you most enjoy?

Millie and the Earl are two very likeable characters and I enjoyed watching the pair get to know each other and fall in love. The fact that Millie's life was in danger added to the excitement and kept me hooked. I loved all the suspense towards the end of the book and the romantic ending left me feeling good and happy.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I found it very difficult to stop listening to this book once I'd started, so yes I would have enjoyed spending my day listening to this book.

    Any additional comments?

I'd recommend listening to the first book, My Lord the Spy, first- simply because it's equally as good and the characters, including the villain, are introduced there.

Listeners who prefer historical romance without 'the naughty bits' will appreciate and enjoy this book.
