Publisher's summary

The hottest collection of studs in romance” (New York Times best-selling author Angela Knight) returns as J. R. Ward brings together two of the most beloved people in the Black Dagger Brotherhood world - at last...

Qhuinn, son of no one, is used to being on his own. Disavowed from his bloodline, shunned by the aristocracy, he has found an identity as a brutal fighter in the war against the Lessening Society. But his life is not complete. Even as the prospect of having a family of his own seems within reach, he is empty on the inside, his heart given to another...

Blay, after years of unrequited love, has moved on from his feelings for Qhuinn. And it’s about time: It seems Qhuinn has found his perfect match in a Chosen female, and they are going to have a young. It’s hard for Blay to see the new couple together, but building your life around a pipe dream is just a heartbreak waiting to happen. And Qhuinn needs to come to terms with some dark things before he can move forward...

Fate seems to have taken these vampire soldiers in different directions, but as the battle over the race’s throne intensifies, and new players on the scene in Caldwell create mortal danger for the Brotherhood, Qhuinn learns the true meaning of courage, and two hearts meant to be together finally become one.

Love the Series...My favorite Narrator thus far!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would recommend it IF you were already into the series head first.

If you’ve listened to books by J.R. Ward before, how does this one compare?

This one was slow for me and I that's sad because I couldn't wait to hear Quinn's story

Which character – as performed by Jim Frangione – was your favorite?

Quinn of course - - but Lassiter really needs his own book too!!!!

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I really enjoyed the entire plane scenario.

Well done!

I'm not done reading yet, but I just had to put this out there. The scene where Qhuinn flew the plane was awesome and so touching. The moments he shared with Z, and the way the brothers behaved afterwards, was just amazing.

I'm so totally impressed with Blaylock's mom. She is an amazing woman and mother, to accept Blay and Qhuinn both without any hesitation is phenomenal. Well done to that momma!

Luchas? WOW!

The way Qhuinn reacts to the black robed figures entering his room is hilarious, heartbreaking and touching all at the same time. The ceremony was beautiful, I cried a bit, and I'm so happy for Q!

The last 3 chapters of this book had me bawling. It was just beautiful, the way it all unfolded. I'm so happy for the boys and the way things worked out for them.

I must say that having read this book, finally, I'm not as disgusted by Layla or Saxton anymore. The fact that they both stepped back to allow Q and Blay to find their way to one another was very gracious and kind. I do feel kind of bad for Saxton, as he truly fell in love with Blay, and I hope he finds his HEA. I also feel a bit bad for Layla. I mean; she finds a guy and becomes close with him, gets pregnant by said guy, almost loses the baby, and then she finds another guy she's interested in romantically only to discover he is one of her kings' greatest enemies. What's a girl to do when she preganant by a guy on one side of the war and in love with a guy on the other? I can't wait to find out what comes of all this.

Also, I'm really hoping that Assail finds Sola in time. I want to see where their flirtations lead.

Now, having said all that, the reason I gave the book 4*s instead of 5 is because I felt so frustrated by how long and drawn out the whole Q & Blay situation was. The image of family jewels posing as punching bags entered my mind many times.

Even with that little snafu, it was still an amazing story and I can't wait for the next book!

It was well worth the wait!

The title says it all! This book is a culmination of journey we have been on for a very long time! And it was so worth the wait! We have seen Quinn and Blay evolve into 2 unbelievable characters as only The Warden can do! I loved their story and all the rest in this book. Can't wait to see what's next for them and the rest of the Brothers!

Amazing! Totally worth it!

What made the experience of listening to Lover at Last the most enjoyable?

I appreciate how J.R. Ward incorporated new characters and they all have a meaning and a part to add to the story line in a way that makes sense. I can't wait to find out what happens with Asale and Sola! What happens to Luke, and Leila, Trez and Selena! I really hope there is a book 12 and that is comes out soon!

Some great, some not so great

Would you try another book from J. R. Ward and/or Jim Frangione?

Always!

What did you like best about this story?

I loved that the book was not centered solely around the two lovers this time. I loved that Ms. Ward introduced so many new characters, and made me fall in love with each one of them. I love the stress with Layla and the forbidden love she has. This book was great in so many ways!

Which scene was your favorite?

I loved the scene with Payne and Layla, I was so distraught at the possible loss there, and I definitely cried from happiness when Ms. Ward thought of that ingenious way to save us all from that loss! Also, I LOVED seeing Layla's strength within Havers' clinic

Do you think Lover at Last needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

Of Course! you can't leave my favorite fantasy world (and me) on the brink of disaster without telling me what comes next! I can't wait for the King! However, because this book is titled differently than the rest, my biggest fear is that it will be Ms. Ward's last in this series, and after all the hours I have spent falling in love with the story, characters, relationships, and also becoming excited about the new relationship that are brewing, I don't want it to stop!

Any additional comments?

So, why the four stars? Well, there are some obvious reasons this book might be a little less appealing to the natural readers of this type of series (heterosexual females), but that's only a small part of the awkwardness for me. While I didn't enjoy reading the love scenes as much as I normally do, and I appreciated more time focused on other characters as a result, I still have a small problem with the men themselves being uncomfortable with all the parameters of being homosexual. If the characters are uncomfortable being openly gay, how can I fully embrace and support it when it doesn't come natural to me? For that reason the relationship just would sink in, and then by the ceremonial ending there were gaps I couldn't stretch over to reach that "I'm so happy for you" stage. I missed that in this book!

Beautiful story

I love the way blay and Quinn's relationship developed. I was rooting for them the whole time. Seeing them love each other silently, and finally being able able scream their love for each other was amazing. Ward has amazing writing. As always, Frangione is a fantastic narrator. I'm very pleased with this series.
