Publisher's Summary

His heart’s desire. His life-long friend. Separate women…or one and the same?

Clarkson Dalton abandoned his books and poetry to join the Confederacy, determined to protect his family’s South Carolina plantation and the women who live there. Instead of garnering honor and glory, however, he missed most of the fighting as a prisoner of war.

Three years stewing in shame and humiliation would have driven him mad, except for the packet of letters he carries home tucked next to his heart. Missives from his betrothed, Kimberly, whose sweet, passionate words literally kept him alive.

Melissa Fleming has been cleaning up her mistress’s messes for almost as long as she can remember. One task, however, was no hardship during their temporary London exile—writing letters to the man Miss Kimberly discarded like a soiled bit of lace. Missy fell for the sensitive, scholarly Clarkson years ago. Though the signature on the letters was not her own, every word of love was real.

Now that the war is over, it’s time for Kimberly and Missy to return home. And Missy is about to discover there’s a mess awaiting her…and this time, cleaning it up could break her heart.

Sweet romance with more

What seems like a fairly typical love triangle turns out to be anything but. They dynamics between the three characters are far from normal and they're very amusing.

In some ways the story explores what motivates us. The character each make some dubious decisions that had me wondering why they would do that. It made the story more interesting than a 'normal' historical romance.

The setting is beautifully described and the characters have been carefully crafted to create and engaging and enjoyable book. I'll be looking for more books in the series.

The narration is excellent, the character voices are clear and distinct and good matches for the characters personalities. The delivery is very natural sounding and conveys the emotions of the story really well.

A Clean and Sweet Historical Novel

I received a free copy of this book from the author and/or narrator and/or publisher and I voluntarily wrote this honest review.

I was very taken with this audiobook. It is nice to see that it is still possible to have authors write sweet, pleasant stories without always having to recur to sensationalism and strong graphic images. The storyline is a little predictable, but the characters are well defined and very likable. This was the first book of the Unbridled Series I have listened to, so some reference to other characters and events were a little fuzzy. I guess if you want to learn more about the other peripheral characters in the story, you'll need to read the other books in the series.
The performance was excellent and the interpretation very pleasant. If you are looking to listen to a clean, sweet love story with a happy ending, then this is for you.

Enjoyable audio

Where does Love Letters rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I would give it 4 stars. There were some glitches, but it many just be my internet.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Clarkson Dalton was my favorite character because he was sensitive and kind, besides being smart.

What about C.J. McAllister’s performance did you like?

I liked his voice best for Clarkson Dalton. His voice kept bringing to my mind Marshal Matt Dillon played by James Arness. I liked the deep quality of his voice.

Any additional comments?

I was only disappointed that it was not a completely clean book. I was not prepared for any swear words.

Great listen!

Love this series! Great story with a good dose of humor. Fantastic narrator as well. This story could be listened to as a stand-alone, but since characters from the previous books make appearances the series should be listened to in order. I received a free review copy of this audiobook at my request and I have voluntarily left this review.

Book 3 In Unbridled Series – Contains Spoilers

🐎

This is the 1st book that I have listened to in the Unbridled Series but I did not feel that I had missed too much by hopping right in with book 3. There were a few references to family members that I assume were in the previous books. If you like reading series in order, do not start with this book because it will contain spoilers (the ever after of the 2 previous books.)

In this book we meet Clarkson Dalton who joined the Confederacy but was almost immediately captured and held as a prisoner of war. He is dealing with guilt for not being able to protect his family's South Carolina plantation and thinks himself a coward. However, letters from his fiancée – encourage him to press on and know that there is something very good waiting for him, all he has to do is grab it.

Clarkson Dalton's fiancée, is a silly girl who has no intention of marrying the most boring of the Dalton Brothers! Missy, Kimberly's 'lady in waiting(?)' is smitten with her childhood friend, as well. When Kimberly grouses at the chore of having to write to Clarkson – with whom she has no interest in the future with him – Missy seeks her permission to write to Clarkson. In typical Fiddle Dee Dee fashion of a southern belle, Kimberly gladly hands the task to Missy.

Now, Kimberly's father sends both ladies to California where Clarkson Dalton has purchased a substantial ranch. He cannot wait to see his beloved, Kimberly. Kimberly cannot think of anything worse and Missy has no idea how to reveal her deception, if she ever could!

The plot is revealed very early on, so it is predictable. However, there are oodles of surprises for the listener. It is a wonderful, historical romance. I am sure the whole series is as well.

I thoroughly enjoyed CJ McAllister's performance. She was very good at differentiating the female characters but I would've liked a bit more diversity in the male characters. Overall a 4 star performance.

Sweet historical romance

I was hooked from the beginning of the story and I thought this is going to be good. However I found that I got really frustrated with the main character Clarkson. I wanted to slap him at times with the decisions he made. But, the author in my opinion was trying to reflect his naivety, immaturity and confusion when it came to women. I am glad to say that we are shown this instead of being told so when he does figure out what he really wants, we understand why he did the things he did in the past.

I would recommend it. It is a short listen with a good narrator and a clean romance, so it suitable for all.

Love letters

It seems that this book by Sandra E Sinclair was a bit different from the others I’ve read, which I really enjoyed. At times the situations were too surreal.

The narration was OK, but I know that CJ McAllister can do much better, for that reason I give him 4 stars instead of 5.

I received this audio-book free for an honest review by the author, narrator, or publisher. Thank you!!!

Historical western love triangle!

What a muddle! Kim, Missy and Clarkson all knew each other as children. Clarkson fancied himself in love with Kim and asked for her hand in marriage. The problem was that Missy secretly pined for Clarkson and she's Kim's companion. Then the war comes to Charleston, where they all live, and Clarkson goes to war while Kim and Missy accompany Kim's parents to the relative safety of Europe.

The story is set after the war. Clarkson spent most of the war safely confined to his uncle's home and now carries a fair share of shame and survivor's guilt as well as suffering from PTSD. The only thing that sustained him through the years are Kim's letter. The same letters that Missy wrote on Kim's behalf.

Like any house of cards, the truth showly tumbles down as the tangled web unravels.

Sandra E Sinclaire has written a simple love triangle with complex angles. Just as the reader thinks the characters have sorted themselves out there is a twist in the plot and the story changes again. Overall this is a fun and sweet story.
