Publisher's Summary

Responsible for protecting her younger siblings from their abusive father, Bethoc Matheson is in no position to rescue another soul in Scotland. Yet when she sees a bleeding man on the verge of drowning, that's exactly what she does, securing him safely in a cave where she can return day after day to tend to his wounds.

Sir Callum MacMillan can scarcely believe such a slight lass as Bethoc could save him from the grasp of death. But he knows the telltale marks of an angry fist on her skin, and he knows she has the soul of a fighter within her feminine frame. Raised to be a protector of the weak by his Murray clansman, Callum would prefer to be the one saving her - and save her, he will. If he can first survive the treacherous attack that led him into her irresistible arms.

Good book

It's a good book but the characters are not as well developed as most in her other books. Most of her books I want to hear or read more than once, but I'm not sure I will this one.

I will miss the Murrays and Kin!

This has been a wonderful series. I do intend on listening to it in its entirety again. Angela Dawe did a great job, at times I almost thought there was more than one person narrating.

A little slow

Any additional comments?

I think I have a problem with a single person performing all the talking parts of a story. I wish the publishers would invest in both male and female narrators for a single story. Perhaps this is a personal issue and not a reflection on the author or narrator so I have refrained from commenting on quality, etc. I found it hard to put "me" into the story so will limit my selections to documentary or news-style online books in the future.

inadequate plot development

I always read Hannah Howell because her books always seem so interesting. I am always disappointed and never so much as by this title. I understand that by the 21st book in a series, you take some things for granted, such as explaining the clan with the powers. But what most disenchanted me was that Howell seems to have taken this as a pass to refuse explanation on EVERYTHING. Her characters fell flat and were a confusing mass of underdevelopment. Her storyline held great promise, but lacked any real pinnacle of urgency or conflict. Her resolutions were sloppy and easy.
