Publisher's summary

Author of the beloved Half Moon Hollow series of vampire romances (Nice Girls Don’t Have Fangs), Molly Harper has created a standalone paranormal romance in which a dilapidated haunted house could bring star-crossed lovers together - if it doesn’t kill them first! When Nina Linden is hired to landscape a private island off the New England coast, she sees it as her chance to rebuild her failing business after being cheated by her unscrupulous ex. She never expects that her new client, software mogul Deacon Whitney, would see more in her than just a talented gardener. Deacon has paid top dollar to the crews he’s hired to renovate the desolate Whitney estate - he had to, because the bumps, thumps, and unexplained sightings of ghostly figures in 19th-century dress are driving workers away faster than he can say “Boo”. But Nina shows no signs of being scared away, even as she experiences some unnerving apparitions herself. And as the two of them work closely together to restore the mansion’s faded glory, Deacon realizes that he’s found someone who doesn’t seem to like his fortune more than himself - while Nina may have finally found the one man she can trust with her bruised and battered heart. But something on the island doesn’t believe in true love…and if Nina and Deacon can’t figure out how to put these angry spirits to rest, their own love doesn’t stand a ghost of a chance.

Free Sample Harper & Ronconi ARE BACK!

Where does FREE Better Homes and Hauntings: Chapters 1 and 2 rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Made me itchy for the rest of the book to come out. I love Molly Harper, her writing is usually so funny I'm laughing out loud, and with audio books that can be disturbing. (especially the strange looks you get at the park)

What was one of the most memorable moments of FREE Better Homes and Hauntings: Chapters 1 and 2?

When chapter two ended I couldn't believe almost an hour had gone buy. I have in my wish list to purchase as soon as it becomes available.

Which scene was your favorite?

So far at the end of chapter inventing a drinking game, you have to hear in in Ronconi's voices.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Molly Harper and Amanda Ronconi seem to hit the nail on the head every time. Harper's words and Ronconi's narrations. I've heard Amanda Ronconi do other narrations and she's fabulous with all her work. I always look for certain narrators when new books are available. Ms Ronconi is one of my favorites.

Any additional comments?

I'm straining at the bit for this book........Don't know what else to say.

Such a TEASE!!

I love Molly Harper! Put her together with Amanda Ronconi and the snarky laughs just keep coming...I can't wait to get the rest of the book! These first two chapters definitely make me want to hear the rest of the book. It has interesting characters, a mystery, and some very fun potential relationship antics brewing!

Just a sample

Since this is just a sample, it's kind of hard to rate. I gave it three stars since it did intrigue me enough to want to listen to the rest of the story.

Okay, but not good enough to buy the book

STORY (fantasy/romance) - The summary for this book sounds good enough -- a young woman is hired to landscape the estate of a handsome software millionaire and the mansion turns out to be haunted. There are definitely possibilities for the development of a cute romance story, but I didn't hear anything in this one-hour excerpt to whet my appetite to listen further. I normally love anything that Molly Harper writes, but not this time. The attempts at humor lacked the famous Molly Harper sarcasm, and I didn't get the least bit interested in the romance-to-come.

NARRATION - Normally Amanda Ronconi is awesome at delivering Molly's snarky dead-pan humor, but even her talented performance couldn't save this excerpt.

OVERALL - The book is rated pretty high and might be good in the end. Personally, if you're looking for a fantasy/romance, I'd recommend checking out Molly's Half Moon Hollow series instead. The books are romantic, funny and outright adorable.

A Bit of Silly Fluff

What would have made FREE Better Homes and Hauntings: Chapters 1 and 2 better?

This is targeted for those who prefer light, silly, fun romance. That is not me.

Has FREE Better Homes and Hauntings: Chapters 1 and 2 turned you off from other books in this genre?

No, I have never liked this type of writing or movies. I appreciated the opportunty to sample it and reconfirm that it is not for me. But I know women who wold love this type of story.

What three words best describe Amanda Ronconi’s performance?

Perfect match. She lets you know right away that thia is just a romp in the hay.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Disgust for the silliness of the characters and the absurd plot.

Any additional comments?

This book is just what it purports to be: carefree romantic fluff, that doesn't make you think too much, will not make you endure unpleasant suspense with bad outcomes. It's Disney world where every thing will turn out perfect with laughs along the way.
