Acerca de esta escucha

The end of her journey is only the beginning....

The Barrani would be happy to see her die. So Kaylin Neya is a bit surprised by her safe arrival in the West March. Especially when enemies new and old surround her and those she would call friends are equally dangerous....

And then the real trouble starts. Kaylin's assignment is to be a "harmoniste" - one who helps tell the truth behind a Barrani Recitation. But in a land where words are more effective than weapons, Kaylin's duties are deadly. With the wrong phrase she could tear a people further asunder. And with the right ones...well, then she might be able to heal a blight on a race.

If only she understood the story....

I really like this series and cannot wait for more. I wish each book was longer. Great narration by Khristine Hvam.

But I love them all! And now I have all the audio books as well. The performance is excellent!

I don't know what it is about these books!

I enjoy this narrator. She has a very bright voice. The story is different tho. I have a difficult time trying to figure out how the lead character is so passive. I hope in other books she is valued. No one can, who has saved the world over and over again, blindly sit back and let ppl be disrespectful regardless of she is mortal. The hubris of fae like creatures and dragons shouldn't be so stupid as to not see others worth. Instead of being rude they should be thankful they have her for a short while. No one will save them when she is gone

almost has a back bone

Would you listen to Cast in Sorrow again? Why?

It is not as good as some of the rest , but still good. This is one of three different series that I will listen to more then twice a year. I like it when books have 18+ hours. This was confusing but not...I fill like the main character is confused as I am. I too would like to see more development of some of the characters as well as nightshade. And I do want more of the dragon and have that relationship grow. I am almost 60 so am not a kid.Ps. To me , if you get author you like and a great narrator audio books is better then a movie or reading.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, as is the rest of the series.

Still like this

I felt that it dwelt too much on the one event. Other episodes had little digressions from the main story line where this one has very little to say about what else may be going on.

This episode is little slow compared to others.

It takes an incredibly skilled writer to draw the reader into a world so much so that the reader forgets what they are doing and becomes completely immersed the story. Michelle Sagara achieves that in the rich, intense book and the overall series. I have become so emotionally invested that I can't put it down.

That said, the way the heroine is written drives me crazy, to the point where I am swearing at the protagonist. She can't really be as obtuse as the author makes her out to be, she just can't. She's too intuitive, too compassionate, too clever and perceptive to be that "dumb". But the way she's expounds and seemingly rambles on and eventually gets to the point 20 minutes (sometimes literally 20 min) later is less impactful and more frustrating than I think the author intended. What I think is meant to provide insight into the protagonist ends up making the book top-heavy, bloated and redundant in some instances. And that alone infuriates me. Because this had the potential to be that much better, and it's already so, so good.

I love and hate this book/series

Each entry in this series throws more curves than a major league pitcher and leads one on a merry chase to the end Never predictable it provides more intrigue with every page I’m looking forward to the next volume.

This series is addictive

I have listened to all this series and find it very interesting. If you have never listened to any of these books it is a good idea to listen to Cast in Peril first. I like the lengths of the stories (although it wouldn't hurt my feelings if they were longer). The characters are colorful. Ms. Sagara has created a wonderful world. The narrator does an excellent job. This book picks up where the last one stops with alittle less action. The focus is saving Teala and the Green in the West March. There is a bunch of information about Barrani in this story including the "lost children", Teala and Nightshade. I only have one complaint I wish Kailyn would learn to make peace with her past more but I understand that she is young and seems to be trying to.

Full of good info

i don't know where it went wrong, but this book just didn't have the same effect on me as the others. usually i can't wait for the next one, but if it isn't any better than this one, then don't bother.

it isn't that the writing was bad, or the narration...i can't put my finger on it, but the vibe was wrong. the flow and excitement was just lacking in this one.

still and all, it's a good listen, Khristine Hvam is one of my favorites. i just wish it had the same 'something' as the other books in this series.

Not as good as the previous books in this series..

What did you love best about Cast in Sorrow?

Hvam is always gives a great performance.

If you’ve listened to books by Michelle Sagara before, how does this one compare?

This story is slow and focuses on just one event. Many of the previous stories had multiple situations and varied characters.

Which character – as performed by Khristine Hvam – was your favorite?

All.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Please do not.

Any additional comments?

I am afraid that Michelle has run out of avenues for the story and is just casting about. She has a beautiful writing style but unfortunately nothing to say.

Great performance but slow story
