Publisher's summary

An uncertain past. A sinister tattoo. A woman whose origin is steeped in mystery.

For Tate - last name unknown - everything prior to being found by pirates on an isolated piece of land is a blank. Her only clue to the person she was: a dragon tattoo capable of moving under its own will.

Brought to the city of Aurelia, Tate is forced to abandon the few people she knows to make her way alone. When a momentary impulse forces her to intervene in a situation she does not understand, she'll find that reckless actions have unintended consequences.

Friendless and alone, Tate will have to be light on her feet if she wants to survive in a city where no one is what they seem. Monsters walk the labyrinth beneath Aurelia's streets, and it's there where Tate will find the biggest clue to her past. Unlocking her hidden memories might just be the only thing keeping her alive to prevent the coming war.

Great Original Story

I enjoy fantasy. I like this take on a dragon themed fantasy. Ending seemed abrupt. More like the end of a chapter rather than the end to a story. Great reading. Very immersive.

Love the series

I'm glad to have the audio version - but it wouldn't whispersync with my kindle version. I'll have to find some hours to Waste on the phone with technical support.

Fantastic

Once again, T.A. White kills it with her books! I can’t wait to listen to the second one.

Love the story, not the narrator.

The story is wonderful, but the narration is terrible. The narrator is so monotone it’s hard to follow. The male voices sound ridiculous. Just very disappointing, especially since it’s the same narrator for the whole series. :(

Great story

This is the first dragon story I’ve read. I was pleasantly surprised. The story was engaging and kept me turning the page. I’ve read two other series by Author and she has moved into my top five.

Too many disappointments

I found this story really hard to follow. I can’t think of a single primary character that was as they were introduced. It made it hard to know who anyone (really) was and follow their contribution to the plot or get connected to them to invest the time into the rest of their stories in the series. Is he a pirate or a lord? Is the boy a thief or a spy? Is the girl something other? Can these characters be trusted or are they untrustworthy? Who is the random robot-person? Are those two teamed up? Yes…no…yes…wait….

Like others, I was hopeful for a strong female lead with amazing abilities and an entertaining attitude. But, Tate doesn’t know who she is and never lives into the hints we are given. There’s a big disconnect between who we are given glimpses of and the actions and thoughts of the character herself. She doesn’t even take advantage of the chances she is given to figure out more about herself! She is driven by something that doesn’t find its root in the story; she is betrayed constantly; and there is no explanation for why she feels responsible for those she risks her life for…

Narration is okay, but I think some creative liberties were taken with the characters that I wouldn’t have read into them. The inflection used for Tate sometimes sounds ditzy and I don’t think her character was intended to be so. There are so many characters that the different voices blend together and there are points that it’s hard to distinguish who is talking.

Overall, I feel like this plot could have been grand but there’s too much shoved in to the story unnecessarily, too many turns to keep track of, and too much left unexplained. I know there are other books in the series, but I’m not drawn in or connected to these characters enough to want to spend more hours with them.

Stubborn to the bone.

T.A White is fast becoming one of my favorite authors. At one point I had listened to all of her books on Audible and when I found out the Dragon Ridden series wasn’t on Audible, I got them on my Kindle and read them. So of course, I picked them up once they were added to Audible and I don’t regret it at all. Full of adventure, mystery, and later in the series some romance. I really like the friendship that TA White puts into her story, sometimes side characters are equally as important as the main ones. Same narrator as all T.A White books, she does great for the characters this author creates.

Worth a read

the story is great, the voice for males is a bit off but not bad, I'm loving the series and it's highly unexpected twist

narrator was good. Story was not succinct.

I struggled to get half way through, gave up. the story line ambled and had no goal that I could see.
