Publisher's summary

Growing up on Rainshadow, Charlotte Enright knew better than to ever go into the Preserve, until that one fateful night with Slade Attridge - a night neither of them would forget.

Now, 15 years later, both have returned to the island: Charlotte to take over her late aunt’s antiques shop and Slade to fill the police chief’s position. Able to read auras, Charlotte senses something amiss in Slade, but that doesn’t stop her from wanting him - again. That is, as long as his dust bunny “deputy” keeps his paws off her merchandise.

Hiding a psi injury, Slade is afraid of his powerful desire for Charlotte. But a series of increasingly violent crimes draws them closer together - and into the darkness at the heart of the Preserve....

It is what it is

If you've read any of these, then you know what you're getting into; this is more of the same and just as good as the rest. No surprises, ugly or otherwise. And yet, for a way to spend a few hours, it is as worth the time spent as the rest of them. For me, at my age, being worth the time is really quite an accolade.

Not up to her standard

Love Jayne Castle books but this wasn't great. Characters are bitchy and immature. Not likable, and narrator makes them sound worse.

I like the new Harmony setting.

Where does Canyons of Night rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

A good listen however short.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Canyons of Night?

For me it was knowing at once what the doll was from earlier Arcane Society stories.

Have you listened to any of Joyce Bean’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Yes, I listen to 4+ books a week and although I'm not one to care who reads them I do care that they are read well. I find this one read well and with a pleasant voice. I also find this book to be comparable to others in the Harmony/Arcane series.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The kids run for cover.

Any additional comments?

I'm looking forward to more island adventures.

A great mystery and romance

I loved the story, The main character was interesting, and his love interest Charlotte grew on me.

excellent

How can the third book in a trilogy leave an opening for a fourth? Guess that it is an introduction to a new series. I can only hope!

Love the Rainshadow Island series.

Light fantasy escape with minimal violence, language, & intimacy. Fun! Narrator does a good job. See author website for series order.
