Marvelous, Witty, and Unbelievable Destiny!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I have read and listened to a great number of Amanda Quck's offerings, and this one is so different from the others that it was like a breath of fresh air. Not to say I don't enjoy all of her books, I do, but this one is so different! Yes, I would recommend it to anyone who wants a good listen.

What other book might you compare Affair to and why?

A comparison does not come to mind, this book takes all of the cliché of romance novels, and turns them into great entertainment. So I guess the whole thing is that there is no comparison in my library!

Have you listened to any of Barbara Rosenblat’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I have just recently listened to Wicked Widow by Amanda Quick also done by Ms Rosenblat. She is a marvelous reader, and lends more dimension to the characters of the book. I am looking forward to getting more of her readings in the near future.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes! I have a terrible time putting the iPod down and getting about other things when I start a book, and this one was no exception. It was marvelous!

Any additional comments?

The wit in this book was wonderful. The dissertation of the old butler on the scream in the laboratory had me giggling at odd moments for the rest of the day!

Not a bad story but bad recording

Would you consider the audio edition of Affair to be better than the print version?

No. And it's sad because it could have been.

Any additional comments?

This was a classic Amanda Quick novel. And i wanted to love the audio. The narrator was good, the story was good, and if they had given the guy coughing in the background for a good portion of the book at random times a cough drop it would have been a five star read for me.

Typical Amanda Quick, you like them or you don't.

As much as Amanda Quick's books are all similar, I still buy them and read them so they must have something that keeps me coming back. This book was not one of my favorites by this author but still good if you can get past the narrator. While Barbara Rosenblat isn't a bad narrator she does sound like an old smoker and doesn't fit the part of the main character. I have never been a big fan of her readings. Also the actual recording would have background noise such as someone coughing or ticking noise, but it is mild. Good for a sale if you like regency romances.

This one is for the nerds!!!!!

I love Amanda Quick novels. The H is a dork, the h a bigger dork and it all comes together in perfect alchemical harmony.
The narrator is "alright" she's a bit "breathy", the long pauses drove me a little nuts, but it didnt take too much from the story. May Baxter and Charlotte live happily ever after!

The men of St Ives do everything with style

Another Quick novel that stands the test of rereading.
Two strong minded people who don't trust romantic attractions and also have learned to carve their own way in the world, come together because of a murder. There is lots of situational and conversational humor, and a swashbuckling envisioning near the end.
If you are lucky enough to get the audio, you will be glad that Barbara Rosenblatt is the audio performer.

Okay, and lots of background noise

Is there anything you would change about this book?

It was too slow and almost predictable in many points. I would have liked to have a more complicated story line.

If you’ve listened to books by Amanda Quick before, how does this one compare?

This is not the best Amanda Quick book I've purchased. There are many more that are more compelling and entertaining. It would take a great deal to measure up to Mistress, which is my favorite.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Barbara Rosenblat?

This book needs a less gruff voice. This narrator has an issue with breathing sounds which are distracting at best and irritating at worst.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

no

Any additional comments?

There is quite a bit of backgound noise on this recording. I hear people talking, laughing, and coughing. I usually listen with headphones while traveling, so it is even more irritating.

Good story, decent narrator.

Amanda Quick addresses women's issues of the time without belaboring the point or anachronism. Always a good story. Not my favorite narrator, but certainly very listenable.

What A Story! What An Affair!

This was a well-crafted story...I just kept listening until the very end! But then Amanda Quick is certainly the Mistress of Romance Storytelling--that can't be denied! And Barbara Rosenblat--her narration was beyond excellent!

Animal Magnatism

A great story, the narrator voice was a bit boring and monotone. Charlotte wants to know what happened to her client and Baxter wants to know if Charlotte is a blackmailer and murderess. Almost upon meeting Charlotte, Baxter realized that she
had nothing to do with the murder. When Charlotte revealed to him why she hired him they will work together to solve this
crime. The thing is the murderer is not only tied to Charlottes background but also Baxter's. A great book with a wonderful ending.

My first Amanda Quick book and I Loved it

After reading a few reviews I was hesitant to listen. However I decided to get it since audible has such a great return policy. Well I am glad I gave it a shot. Thoroughly enjoyable love story with, murder mystery and passion all bundled up in one book.
