Publisher's Summary

Callie Daniels' mother has one dying wish. She wants neighboring rancher, Garrett O'Neill, to marry her 17-year-old daughter. It's not supposed to be a conventional marriage. Garrett O'Neill would keep Callie's ranch safe, and Callie would go away to college.

Four years later, Callie comes home with stars in her eyes and happily ever after in her heart. She plans to make their marriage real until she finds the new housekeeper, Sylvie, in Garrett's arms.

Heartbroken, Callie takes off to her own house, which they closed up four years ago. She stays there with Old Henry, a longtime friend and ranch hand, until her new horse injures her. Garrett forces Callie to move back in to his house.

Callie finally gets her heart's desire. Alone in a line shack, they make sweet love for the first time. Unfortunately, the love light is gone from Garret's eyes the next morning.

How Many Times Can You Forgive A Fool?

I wanted to listen to this book because the "blurb" sounded good and the narrator Meghan Kelly is a particular favorite of mine. I am sad to say that I had to make myself keep listening. The storyline involved, murder, intrigue, greed, deceit, lies and love so it had everything going for it but .......

Firstly I'll tell you what I liked: The descriptions of the ranches and the surrounding areas were very well done, I could feel the heat, I could smell the bluebonnets, I closed my eyes and I was transported. The characters were incredibly well defined and you felt like you knew them. Even the animals who play a large part in this story, especially Nanny and Pirate, become so familiar you feel you want to reach out and hug them.

Now for what I didn't like, Garrett the main guy in this story was, well for want of a better word, he was a jerk, he hurt Callie over and over again. He thinks he's an honourable man but he wasn't he might have been good looking but he came across as very selfish.

He married Callie at her mother's request to keep Callie's ranch safe after her death. She knew Callie loved Garrett - maybe she hoped he would grow to love Callie. Callie goes away to College to finish her education and Garrett looks after both ranches treating them as one ranch.

Callie is away for four years with very little contact from Garrett but comes home starry eyed expecting their marriage to become 'real' only to walk in to find Garrett in his beautiful housekeeper's arms.

Well from that situation we have Callie and Garrett both behaving like children not adults, neither one of them actually sits down and discusses their situation. He tells her he loves her, he takes her virginity then he tells her to divorce him - go figure.

She runs off like a spoilt child and hides her head in the sand so to speak and whilst all this is happening you have fences being cut, a murder in the ranch house and you never know who to trust. That part of the book was good but even then some of the things that happened just grated on me. A good secondary character in this book was Stamos Walker, he befriended Callie but was he really who we thought? Old Henry made a good stand in dad to Callie and Lasso Springs had some very interesting characters.

I will not say more, I don't want to give away too many spoilers but my overall feeling when the book ended was well at least there was a HEA.

I was given a copy of this book as a gift and my review is written voluntarily.

Greed over land and oil rights=trouble

Callie and Garrett fulfilled her mother’s dying wish by getting married, when Callie was 17 yo, to keep her ranch safe. Callie is returning home, after 4 yrs of college, and is eager to have a real marriage...except it appears that Garrett has other ideas. Garrett feels that the 15 yr age difference is too much between them and is trying to push Callie away. However, when Callie is injured, something shifts and he sees her in a different light, but that does not lead to an HEA. Lots of twists and turns in this story...jealous housekeeper murder, attempted murder, vandalism on the ranch...and that’s just part of it. The story may have been more enjoyable if Callie wasn’t behaving like an immature, hormonal teenager...always jumping to conclusions and spouting off at the mouth...did not really feel chemistry between her and Garrett. Finally got an HEA.

Callie's Heart Lasso Springs, Book 1 review

I was drawn into the story from the moment I started listening. This is one of the best western's I've heard, and have no problem rating it five stars. Worth the time and look forward to part two.

Wow! Another great story.

A story full of twists and turns. So much happens to our lady lead - Callie that I even could feel her desperation. Young and married with an older man, Callie return home from college to find her love in the arms of another woman. She is full of self doubts. On top of that, the mob wants her drilling rights for the oil on her land. Then she finds out, she doesn't really own her property. It does come to a happy ending. Definitely worth getting.

OIL-SLICK COWBOY COMPLICATIONS

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Not sure how to write this because of so many, TOO many, twists and plots happening around an arranged marriage of convenience. Dying of cancer, Callie’s mother asked Garrett, an older and trusted neighbor, to wed her 17 year old daughter in order for to keep her ranch. The marriage wasn’t consummated but after 4 years of college, Callie returned home a virgin woman with every intention of changing that. She secretly loved Garrett, but her dream was crushed when she walked in on the new house keeper in his arms.
Garrett wasn’t much of a womanizer but when the housekeeper threw herself at him, he saw no reason not to enjoy some of the attention she offered. With Callie’s return he had to confront the confusing feelings he had for this beautiful woman who he’d always known as a child. He handles it very poorly. It’s sometimes hard to see the good guy that he really is.

Besides the up and down, love and hate, relationship issues, the livestock is being mysteriously slaughtered, fences are being destroyed, an oil company is trying to buy land, the housekeeper refuses to clean, the new ranch hand Stamos has his eye on Callie... Then there’s murder and fires and backwoods law....

Whew! Everything gets packaged up nicely in the end but WOW. There’s a lot happening. I admit that I did judge some wrong and a villain surprised me in the end.

Meghan has well developed character voices, even for the men. Her good narration helps carry the complicated storylines.

👍🏻 ONE THUMB UIP HIGH!

sexy cowboys

What an amazing listen! I love me a sexy cowboy and boy does this deliver. This has quite a bit of angst with suspense thrown in. My favorite. Love Meghan's work on here with all the different voices.

Lasso Springs

Really enjoy listening to Meghan Kelly, but sadly this book was just OK for me.
I found Callie to be constantly looking for problems and creating issues for herself and Garrett.
Other than that, majority of the story was enjoyable and listening to Meghan is always a pleasure.

Good drama

While this wasn't as clean as I prefer, it had lots of drama, and was an intriguing mystery with a twist at the end. Great writer!
