Publisher's Summary

A jock and a geeky girl?

Not happening.

Nick Barrett is a god at my university. And me, little ol' April Hansen? I'm just a nerdy girl, studying and working to take care of my dad.

Nick could have any woman he wanted, but for some reason, he wants me...It's a miracle he even notices me waiting for the bus, let alone offer to drive me home.

Before I can help it, I'm falling for Nick. But there's a reason jocks and geeks don't mix, and I'm about to get my heart broken, I just know it.

Between the Tackles is a standalone, full-length, bad-boy sports romance novel. There is no cliffhanger, no cheating, and a guaranteed happy ending!

Tough start but great story

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

Yes and no. I enjoyed the storyline, the narration was ok, but there were some glitches and some repetition in some spots that need to be corrected before I recommend

Who was your favorite character and why?

Nick. I loved his steadfast presence and mindset.

Have you listened to any of Holly Elise’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No. I think holly did fantastic for the female roles, but her male voice was monotone and slow. Rather than a male voice attempt, or tone change, she changed the cadence and rhythm of her speech and it threw things off some.

Do you think Between the Tackles needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

I really enjoyed the characters but a second book wasn't necessary however it could be done.

Any additional comments?

This was a sweet story, and if you manage to stay tuned past the glitches in chat 2, the skip of their meeting, and the monotone moments than it pays off from a story standpoint. I would probably read this story however before buying the audiobook for this one. I received this audiobook from audiobook boom for free for my unbiased review.

Is there anything you would change about this book?

I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher. This book was the first book by Roxy Sinclaire I have ever read. This book can be read as a standalone. This book was more YA for me than I am use to reading. With that being said it was a sweet romance.

Needs some work

There was a lot of good in this book. The plot and the characters were on point. I can see how if this was reworked to be more in depth and not so on the surface, I would thoroughly enjoy.

There were more than a couple editing errors that pulled me out of story and kept me listening just to see if there were more.

Holly Elise was a great narrator for female characters but her male voice wasn't was I hoping for with the male lead being a very masculine football player.

Short and Sweet!

This story had a rocky start, but the more I listened the more the plot drew me in, and left me feeling satisfied. I would rate the story somewhere between 3 and 4 stars.

This H/h hit off! Nick came from money but had a down to earth personality. He was looking for a meaningful relationship and found it in April. April, on the other hand, came from a different social class, and was working towards her law degree. I liked they hit it off and didn't have all the normal push/pull in romance stories. When Nick receives pressure about dating April, he doesn't give in.

Holly did an amazing job on the female characters; however, the male characters not so much. She did a great job with all the various emotions, and her performance was animated and lively. Overall, I did enjoyed the performance but the voice for the male characters needs further developing. Holly would be an excellent choice for dual narrated stories.

I wanted there to be more to the story...

Is there anything you would change about this book?

This book tells the story of Nick and April...I just wish it included more of the story. I felt like there was a lot left out. And that a lot of what was in the story was kind of repetitive. My copy also had some technical issues with chapter 2--it was repeating words and sentences. I missed out on the whole scene where they (presumably) meet, so I have no idea how they met.

How could the performance have been better?

I really wish that the chapters told from Nick's pov were narrated by a man. I know that probably makes a book much more expensive to produce, but it just doesn't work for me.

Fun quick listen

Roxy Sinclaire brings us another good bad boy romance. I love these new adult stories, this one with April and Nick. April, a geeky law student and Nick, an all-star football player are the couple you would think would never work. I loved this story because it showed a couple of major character builders. First, Nick, who is a privileged young man, is someone who stands up for what he believes and sees past the "classes" of people. He looks at April and knows that she is a smart, beautiful woman despite the fact that she does not come from money. Secondly, we see April with Nick, seeing past the "jock, playboy" image that the football players have and relates to the smart man with substance. This romance with it's ups and downs, gives you the emotions and feels of relationships and how to overcome obstacles.

Holly Elise gives a great performance. She portrays the characters with feeling and you want to keep listening.

Need Help

I got this book via audiobook boom. Ok trying to find something positive. I have listened to several books by this author and enjoyed them. This story also would be good if the narration was better. I could not get into the story because of the narration.

Cute.

I had the hardest time listening to the narrator of this book. She needed to actually add some pauses in her narrator. It sounded like run ok sentence after run on sentence. I have enjoyed many of Roxy Sinclaire's books, this one was tough to get into due to the narration and repetition of many points.

Almost there....

Quick fun listen. I enjoyed the book, but it was a rough start. A few chapters in the storyline takes over and you're good to go. I liked Holy Elise, but I just really didn't like how she narrated the male part. Very flat and monotone. I do wish the story was a bit more developed. Overall I enjoyed the book.

Review

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

This is such a good story and it is very emotional. It is a perfect young adult romance that shows all the gamut of feelings that young people suffer as they start their adult life. These youngsters are so honorable and hardworking and their love is so honest and pure. The author really understands how young people think and feel. The presenter did a really good job of reading the book. I loved this book.

Sweet, feel good College Romance

For every studious woman who harbours a secret crush on the seemingly unattainable man. You know the one who is opposite in almost every way. This is for you!

This sweet romance is big on the feel good factor and leaves every reader wishing for that one incredible love. Jocks and geeks do mix and can enhance each other's strengths, much like Nick and April. This story takes the characters through the challenges and insecurities of transitioning from college to "the real world." Thoroughly enjoyable.

Very bad narration

The story is ok, a bit basic but passable but the narration really kills it's, it's the Ne of the worse narrated book I have listened to, I would never get another book narrated by this person
