Publisher's Summary

Jessie Boone is a self proclaimed bad boy and doesn’t march to the beat of anyone’s drum, but his own. Growing up in less than desirable circumstances has made him no stranger to the hard knock life and his determination to leave it behind is fierce. When he finds himself transferred to East Franklin High School, he sees his opportunity to use his athletic ability to snag a college football scholarship, but Forbes Henderson, the player Jessie means to replace isn’t giving up his spot willingly.

In fact, Forbes is willing to go to extreme measures to retain his place as first string quarterback. When Forbes’ malicious plan to injure his replacement fails, Jessie is furious and determined to show him he messed with the wrong person; not only is he going to take the position of first string quarterback, he’s going to take his girl, too. Claire Deveraux is perfection at it’s best.

She is beautiful, intelligent and unaware she just became Jessie Boone’s conquest as revenge against her boyfriend, Forbes Henderson. Like her flawless performance as the perfect daughter and student, Claire’s production of being the perfect girlfriend has everyone fooled, except Jessie Boone, and she fears this tattooed bad boy will see her secret desire to explore his crude threats and promises to rock her perfect world. If she decides to give in to one uninhibited moment with Jessie, will she learn too late that it was all an act of vengeance or will Jessie learn the taste of first love is sweeter than that of revenge?

HS romance

Super low on 🔥scale but cute hs romance. Took star away for the cheating and the dragging along of Jesse. Also, made it through but the narrator for female had a lisp that was tough to overhear and wasn’t upbeat as I would like. Male voices were spot on though.

Jesse & Claire

*****Spoiler Alert*****

Audible Plus review. Dual POV. Standalone and book 1 of 2 in the Going Under duet. No cliffhanger. I really enjoyed both narrators. High school romance. Trigger warnings: drugs, alcohol, murder, attempted murder.

Great story about a pair of high school seniors. Claire was adopted by a wealthy couple soon after her addict mom abandoned her after delivering her, is the valedictorian hopeful, head cheerleader, dating the quarterback, and all around good girl. Jesse transfers to a new school in a wealthy area after he almost died in a drug deal gone wrong. Jesse is a phenomenal ambidextrous quarterback that his coach is excited to have join his football team. Jesse's poor background and football skill make him the target of Forbes, the current quarterback & Claire's current boyfriend. The two quickly fall for each other, overcome family obstacles and are married with a new daughter in the epilogue.

The final chapter is the first 2 chapters of book 2 in the duet which is Peyton's story. Peyton is Claire's best friend. JP

Great HS rom. Clean, sweet, sex age appropriate.

Surprisingly I loved the book. I say Surprisingly because I was concerned after reading several low star reviews. All I can say is I don't agree.

I found the writing easy breezy. I wanted to listen from start to finish without stopping. The plot was 100%, true to life, HS drama - lol 😆 You know the kinda silly stuff in life at age 17 that seems oh so important at the time & the ~I love him so much I might die~ mentality. I did agree with one reviewer that the cheating was not such a nice thing to do but again, they are 17!! All in all I found much of it very fun read.
Having said, as a warning, there was some uncomfortable situations with drugs that constitute mature content.

The only thing I didn't like was the epilog that seemed rushed. I would have preferred it if the end of this book was grad from HS and s new book continued to tell us about their college years. Alas a missed oppty for the author.

The narration was good. Although, they both were a bit monotone from time to time.

If your looking for steamy sex scenes or erotica thos is not the book for you. If you want to relive some fun hs love life angst but generally clean make-out sessions then I recommend this book is for you.

Hard time finishing

I really had a hard time finishing this one. The story was pretty generic and felt like it was missing some chapters. They didn't even officially date and we jumped from hanging out once, to being madly in love, then jumps forward to married. The writing seemed very rookie also.

Overall: Good with some minor suggestions

I enjoyed this story- I think the description for it is slightly misleading. I mean it gets the general idea but whoever wrote the summary it seems didn't read past the first 5 chapters.

I liked their relationship, it was cute and innocent until it wasn't. (btw if anyone is looking for sauce then this is not it) this book is sweet- not spicy.

The ONLY small critiques I have for the story, is that I wish I would have gotten more of a closure moment between Jessie and his Grandma.
I also would have liked the epilogue to be about them going to college together and maybe getting married. Just a personal preference but I kind of dislike how most romances end with a baby.
I am def going to read Peyton's story in book 2. I liked her humor in this one and I'm excited to see what Georgia Cates has in store for her.

Not for me

Going into this I knew it was about high school kids and I knew it would be a little immature but the things these kids did and said was way too much. I rolled my eyes and shook my head way more then I enjoyed this story.

Could not finish

I'm not sure if it was the performance that made this bad. I understand the book is about high school kids, but the immature kids drove me insane. I felt like the girl from Clueless tried writing a book. I gave up on the last hour of the book. Do not recommend at all.

Boring and average writing

Boring, predictable story and the writing was a bit vapid and immature. Didn’t bother finishing it.
