Publisher's summary

New York Times best-selling author Cathy Maxwell's glittering Marrying the Duke series continues.

Twice he has been close to the altar and still no duchess. Will the third time be the charm?

A duke can't marry just anyone. His wife must be of good family, be fertile, and be young. Struggling playwright Sarah Pettijohn is absolutely the last woman Gavin Whitridge, Duke of Baynton, would ever fall in love with. She is an actress, born on the wrong side of the blanket, and always challenges his ducal authority. She never hesitates to tell him what she thinks.

However, there is something about her that stirs his blood, which makes her perfect for a bargain he has in mind: In exchange for backing her play, he wants Sarah to teach him about love.

And he, in turn, has a few things to teach her about men.

Another Wonderful Cathy Maxwell Book

I haven't read/listened to a Cathy Maxwell book for some time now. I always loved her novels. Well, this book is another hit. As usual, the author brings all emotions into her story. Gavin and Sarah are both strong characters. They know what is expected of them; however, love prevails - as it should. This story is quite entertaining in itself and I was surprised by the ending. I loved it. Ms. Maxwell, please continue to give us wonderful stories.

One of Cathy Maxwell's Best

Cathy always writes wonderful characters and stories that excites and warms my heart. These characters and this story will take its place as one of my favorites. Can love be satisfied with such a deep divide between the lovers? That was my question? Loved spending time with these characters!

Cathy Maxwell is brilliant

I enjoyed this easy listen. Cathy Maxwell's wit and charm are showcased in this second in this series. I find our female lead believable in her quest to have her love mean something solid and I would recommend this book to anyone that enjoys a good actress getting her leading man!

Simply Perfect

I enjoyed this book. The writing is superb and no detail left out. The hero Gaven is multifaceted and swoon worthy. I found myself a little jealous of the heroine. Sarah is a strong woman with layers to her as well. I enjoyed this book so much. It is my favorite in the series. I hope everyone loves this twisting story as much as I did.

A Very Enjoyable Tumble Into Love

After just finishing the third listen, I know I'll be listening again in the future. The first listen was a follow-up Charlene's story. I kept the book in the library. The second listen, a year later was to remind myself why I kept the book and decided it's because there are so many appealing aspects beyond the romance. I appreciate the dialogue, the relationships with secondary characters - the charming ones, the evil one and the in-between maternal one - and the narrator's appeal. The third time, I'm reminded how much I like Mary Jane Wells's contribution to character development. While another narrator could bring the characters to life with different levels of playfulness and it would be entirely appropriate to the prose, right now, I'm enjoying the more playful character interpretations and Mary Jane Wells excels at this. I'm starting a Collection called Titles Narrated by Mary Jane Wells and find I have TEN already!

What fun!

Well written story, both romantic yet suspenseful, funny yet serious and overall totally enjoyable!
The characters have depth and quirks and well developed personalities and histories. I got to know them well and that says something.

I did, however, feel as if someone was just reading to me.
NARRATOR: Normally the narration is a performance with distinct characters and voices. While there was never a reason to wonder who was speaking there was also no moment of getting lost in the "movie in my mind" sort of experience. I felt like I was listening to someone read a book, not perform it. I suppose that isn't a bad thing, since I would rather enjoy someone reading to me than suffer through a horribly unenjoyable attempt at 'performing' it.

CREDITWORTHY? : In my opinion yes.

HEAT FACTOR: Warm... with slightly overheated moments tastefully included on occasion.

Delightful book with great characters.

I really enjoyed this story. Both main characters were strong and well matched. The Duke was so loyal that it was inspiring. This story left me with a lot of hope and with my heart full.

The best narration. Mary Jane Wells brings the story to life. She is so dynamic and it’s really a pleasure to listen to her.

Loved it!!!

I typically do not write reviews, but this one is worth it. I loved the story, the narrator, and the characters. Once you pick it up, you'll have to force yourself to put it down to do things, like sleep. I think I found a new favorite author. (I already enjoy Mary Jane Wells.)
