Publisher's summary

Everyone has a breaking point. Carl Logan might have just found his. The JIA sends intelligence agent Carl Logan on a routine mission to Russia. It should have been simple. But when Logan's cover is blown, he's transported into a world of hell he thought he would never see again.

Something is different this time, though, and before long doubts begin to surface in Logan's mind as to why the assignment went so wrong. Logan has never been short of enemies. And sometimes the enemy is closer to home than you think.

Could his own people really have set him up? The odds are against him. But Logan isn't a man who likes to be cornered. And when you poke a caged animal, you'd better be prepared for the consequences....

Holy Moses, This is Intense!

This is hands down one of the best well written books I've listened in quite a while. It was gritty and raw, so intense that you could feel and identify with Logan.

The pace and style this was written in was unique, and had a real viceral feel to it. It grips from the beginning and never let's up from one twist and turn to another.

A truly outstanding story, expertly written and narrated!

Not What I Expected

Much of this novel is spent covering the mental manipulation and confusion of our hero Carl Logan as a result of torture. There are a number of chapters that cover the torture of Carl at the hands of the Soviets. The writing style of bouncing back and forth between Carl’s experience at the hands of the Soviets and the present is very effective in illustrating the mental struggle. The book really isn’t about any mission but on games governments and power brokers play with people’s lives to achieve their goals. There are no good guys in this book only shades of gray and black. As in the first book in this series I have a hard time believing Carl can be the ‘best agent’ with his lack of skills. He basically plows (read punches/fights) his way to his goal. If you are a frequent listener of espionage novels missing are the counter surveillance detection routes, stealth approaches, the gathering of intel before taking action, the hyper alert/vigilance to one’s own personal safety… the basics found in books by Brad Taylor, Jack Coughlin, David Baldacci, Brett Battles, Vince Flynn …. There is a general lack or minimalist approach to the descriptions of weapons, fighting moves, and locations. There are a number of surprises to the plot. Mr. Sinclair seems to have a good grasp and ability to develop plot and create mental tension but his ability to write action and scenes is lacking. Overall the writing is good the narration excellent, yet in the end I was unsatisfied. There is a dark side or feel to this story. It is not uplifting, there is no happily ever after, and a conclusion - well it is: “to be continued”. Taken together it left me unsatisfied.

Disappointing after the first one was so good

Too much graphic torture in the first half of the book, with out enough story. Second half was really good, though it left you hanging. Not sure I’ll buy the third.

tedious

A lot of torture and killing hashed and rehashed, and made more tedious by the narrator's 1 second pause after every sentence.
