Sean wasn't expecting to die today.

He definitely wasn't expecting to be dragged off to another world or raised as a skeleton infused with Death itself. Yet here he is, tossed down a Necromancer's trash chute, and left to fend for himself against otherworldly monsters. Only as an abandoned minion, Sean no longer has a summoner paying the hourly mana costs he needs to sustain his new form. Which is bad since if he can't pay those himself, he's going to die… again.

Thankfully, his first and only friend in this new world can get Sean the mana he needs. Gel's even eager to help! The only catch being that Gel is actually a carnivorous acid slime formed out of pure Chaos magic whose 'help' is to turn everything he eats into free, delicious mana. Once Sean can kill it for him, that is.

Our intrepid heroes are up against everything from oversized antlions, murderous undead, and some supremely terrifying badgers as they battle constantly against their own endless, gnawing hunger just to survive.

By fusing together into a symbiotic nightmare, wielding the twin powers of Death and Chaos, and unlocking the evolution possibilities of a slime and skeleton tandem, Sean and Gel will drive terror through the hearts of all who look upon them. But hey! You know what they say: When a whole new world of magic, stats, and LitRPG-goodness is served up against you, you might as well eat it.

Rise of a Monster is a crunchy, weak-to-strong, monster evolution isekai LitRPG that combines off-the-wall humour with heart-pounding fight scenes and a plot that literally races against the clock. Join Sean and Gel as they slay, flambe, and consume their way across a dark fantasy world filled with wild monsters and wilder magic, all while seeking revenge against the power-hungry necromancer who abandoned them… and is now desperate to reclaim and re-murder them.

Includes bonus download, "Sean & Gel's Monstrous Recipes."

Style is a bit jovial and doesnt take itself super seriously. I enjoy this as there are a perponderance of lits out there that are almost depressingly serious in how they display the characters reaction to the situation. This one has a bit of that but in the end its a guy who really likes food who was turned into a skeleton just living his now unlife.

Story wise we are jsut going to dovetail off of the previous section. There are some serious parts especially once you hit the memory sections with Gel. In the end though we are still starring down a triple barreled fun rollercoaster of a story of a man in search of a way to survive.

Grammar: I'm no stickler about it and I'm a terrible speller to boot. so the fact that I can read it mean it gets full marks from me XD.

Characters: Lots of fun with the whole MC and snarky sidekick trope. Though we go heavy on both being a bit snarky and that is how i like it. Gets more of the DnD group style for humor where things can jsut be off the cuff and laughable between freinds. The dynamic that is growing between the slime and the skeleton is sure to be a lot of fun especially with the sure to be search for rare and endangerd peoples and cultures to meet them and eat them.

All that said its a ton of fun, the MC isnt an total idiot but he isnt just sitting on all of the knowledge easily accessible for some OP nonsense nor the extreme luck to jsut get everything.

Hope yall enjoy this fun story that is shaping up to be a wild ride in a fun and unique world.

I love murderhobo, slightly evil mc’s, and this hit all the buttons, I loved it!

Amazing murderhobo

I like the dynamics between Shawn and Gel. The incorporation of Gel's memory absorption was a really clever way to not only give a proper base line for Shawn to navigate through this new world but also added real emotional depth I wasn't expecting from this story. The humor was great as well. I know when you have a fantasy story about the undead you'll have to deal with grim elements but it got a lot darker than I expected. Which is a good thing because it really grounds the story. There's humor but also tragedy which the author struck a good balance. I highly recommend this series.

Great from start to finish

Can a voracious slime and a summoned skeleton become BFF? Apparently, the answer is, "You Bet!". I enjoyed this story arc a lot due to its unique take on an Isekai genre, that being the co-joining of a death-imbued skeleton and a single-minded slime as his partner, both of which were separately rejected by an evil necromancer as rejects. What follows is a harrowing and, often hilarious, adventure of them causing tremendous havoc on the necromancer's lair before he becomes aware of the damage. What follows is the two of them going out in the wilderness seeking the fame, fortune, levels and ultimately justice for the evil necromancer for his brutal and uncaring acts of killing innocent people.

Neil Hellegers' performance continues to excel in providing just the right tone of sardonic humor as the author surely meant it to be.

A rather odd Ickai, erm, Isekai

Loved the narration and the escalating adventures -- keep it coming! Skeletons, slimes, and necromancers for days!

Gel stole the show

I didn't know this author but the premise sounded unique and I figured even an average book can be made enjoyable with Neil Hellsgers narrating. So I figured the gamble was worth a credit. It absolutely was! The story was engaging, had a point of view and balanced the litrpg elements in a great way that never got in the way of the story itself. I truly enjoyed the book and will be eagerly awaiting the next with a credit ready to go. Thanks for introducing me to some great new characters and a fun new author, Neil!

Who knew being dead with a slime sidekick could be this entertaining?

The narrator did justice to the author’s witty & creative writing.

Refreshingly different

I like it but I wish it had a little less banter between the MC and SC it has a exciting story good action and the litrpg elements are interesting I just think the bantering is a little too much I’ll be listening and space out little bit waiting for their pointless conversation to stop overall I think it’s good just please for the second book calm it down on the back and forth

I like it but

There's good banter then there's this long winded, misunderstanding story that just goes on and on with ever seeming to get anywhere. MC is genuinely dumb or doesn't listen as he asks questions about topics that Gel explains 6 lines ago like it's a new idea. On top of all that there's no actual progress.

Too much filler
