Story Great...NARRATED AWFUL

The story is great but the narrators voice is AWFUL.....The accent is nasally and when she deepens her voice to sound like a man she sounds like a evil rapest or something from a horror movie...not even sure how to explain how awful it is... was not a good listen at all. I didn't listen past the first part of the book. Don't waste your money just buy the book and read it yourself....

Wonderful story, shame about the narrator

This is one of my favorite Amanda Quick novels, great story! But I definitely agree with the previous reviewer, the narrator's attempt at a masculine voice is awful. Very uncomfortable and I found myself dreading every time a male character had a line! I love Amanda Quick's novels, but unfortunately nearly all of her audible books are read by this particular narrator and I refuse to listen to another ghastly attempt at a male voice. Surely there are other english narrators - please Ms. Quick, expand your selection of narrators.

Romance in old English

All the Amanda quick books are compiling and filled with romance, sometimes I am never sure if it is the narrator (Anne Flosnik) that makes it for me or not she is awesome. I often find my self listing more then once to each book and each time it seems like the first time. The writing is always done in a way that I understand even if I have never heard the old English word before I know what she is talking about. This book is just as impacting as all the others, I did not like the earl at first felt him a little to hard headed but then the story came around so that my heart went to him as well.

Fantastic.

Very good story. I will be listening to this one again. Historical romance with some action and the narration is fantastic. I really enjoy Anne Flosnik's narration. Some people give her negative feed back but I think her narration brings life to the story, she catches the mood and sex of the characters. Every Amanda Quick novel I have listened to has been great.

A little frustrating

I was a little frustrated with Harry's penchant for sex when angry and the female lead's willingness to be called "lacking" in intellect. His coldness was akin to a cold shower and his controlling behavior wasn't adequately compensated by his emotional epiphany at the story's end. There was very little catharsis. I think the female protagonist should have climbed out the window ONE MORE TIME....and KEPT Going!

Just a little over done......

A signature feature of the author is a stalwart handsome male who is inspired by a strong minded passionate female to soften his demeanor and succumb to love and marriage, with her of course. Her clever repartee and lively adventures are funny, furious, and dangerous and the book’s characters round out and become believable because of it. Rendezvous does all that but for me, the male is a little too bossy, too domineering which makes it clear that the female is not what she claims. To be blackmailed into marriage and put up with the dominance even over trivialities doesn’t wash. Supposedly when she falls in love with Mr. No Budge, she’s developed armor with ear plugs. I just feel that the male is overdone and made to appear conniving and sneaky and demanding. There are better books by the author (my favorite), try one of them first.

You can't ask for a better entertaining author like Amanda Quick and an expert talented reader like Anne Flosnik to bring reading at it very best. Loved the book

It was something..

Amanda Quick has a lot of excellent books but this one was hard to get through. The fmc and mmc had a lot of potential to be really interesting characters but that didn't pan out. The mmc's mood swings were ridiculous and the fmc was portrayed as so "innocent" she was annoying and like she was constantly being taken advantage of. This one has a lot of cringe especially during the steamy scenes.

Great book but narrator not

One of my favorite Amanda Quick books, I was hopeful the audio version would be top notch. Flosnik (narrator) is good on many books but doesn’t bring off the wit and personalities of the characters here.

The ninny and the curmudgeon

I recall liking this a lot better in the 90s. Was it because I was younger and found Augusta plucky and Harry’s domineering dashing? Or, was it because this narrator overrode my imagination and left me with Augusta as a middle aged matron (instead of the 24 year old as written) and Harry as a stodgy historian? The narrator killed the sexiness and the fun.

If you can get past the narration, you also need to embrace the comical. There’s several running gags that are eyerolling. There’s an Adonis who masquerades as an arthritic butler and ladies repeatedly breaking into houses. Everyone is constantly remarking on Augusta’s rashness as a family trait of the Northumberland Ballingers- so much so you can get drunk taking a swig at every mention.

If you can get past the comical, there’s a lot that’s simply not credible. I get that this is regency romance. But, the spy story belonged among Saturday morning cartoons, complete with monikers like The Nemesis and The Spider (cue cringey danger-narration…ooooh). And, how am I supposed to buy an unmarried woman gambling with men? Perhaps I’m getting too old for regencies with ladies climbing through windows and getting kidnapped by dastardly devils.
