Publisher's Summary

"If you were God," asked Alan Watts, "what kind of universe would you create? A perfect one free of suffering and drama? Or one filled with surprise and delight?"

With Just So, the celebrated philosopher and self-described "spiritual entertainer" invites us to explore the hidden dimensions that shape both the cosmos and our personal experience of it.

From the 1950s to the 1970s, Eastern spiritual philosophies ignited in the West profound new ways of perceiving ourselves and the mysteries of life. And from the beginning, Alan Watts was at the forefront - sparking insight after insight at live gatherings and radio broadcasts. Today Alan Watts' books and recordings bring perennial delight to new listeners of all ages and beliefs.

Here the luminary author and speaker explores three often overlooked yet essential universal dynamics: connection, play, and pleasure. This exceptional collection of sessions includes three complementary seminars:

The Cosmic Network - a journey into the interconnected web of the personal and the infinite

Ecological Awareness - reflections on how humanity and nature evolve through discovery and "purposeless" play

The Pursuit of Pleasure - how a true materialism connects us fully through our senses with others and to the natural flow of the cosmos.

Along the way you'll explore many other themes, at turns humorous, prophetic, and more relevant today than ever. What unfolds is a liberating view of life that arises from possibility and the unpredictable - perfect and "just so" not in spite of its messy imperfections but because of them.

"Alan Watts is more relevant today than ever"

We need more teachers like this in our lives. I have been listening to Alan's teachings now for a couple years. Wish I found this in my twenties. Practical advice and deconstruction of things I was taught as a child. In a time when insulation and separateness are all we hear about, it is a real eye opener to see we really haven't come as far as you think. Still lots of work to do. These are words that will ring true, if you let them.

"If you've enjoyed any lecture of his on YouTube you're going to be enthralled"

A combination of over 20 hours of Watts speaking of self realizations and the true meaning to life. I have new perspective for everything I have done and will do moving forward.

I'm already restarting the audiobook because of how fantastic the first 1/3 of it is. The middle half is extremely intellectual and philosophical so one might feel a sort of drone, but the final third is reward enough for sticking it out.

    I recommend listening at 1.25x

"Just so is Just so good"

This is really good. I'm glad these collections keep coming out. This one is really interesting in the why it's presented. For example they put all the chapters in short clips, and that makes it easier to get back to spots you really liked. Over all the audiobook is great. Worth the money and time.

What made the experience of listening to Just So the most enjoyable?

Listen to his soothing voice while he opens your mind, scrambles it like eggs and returns it to the plate.

What more can I say?! He's got much credit for my decision to leave New York and follow my passion to travel all 50 States and lecture about Israel and Startup Nation. Highly recommended!

"Enlightenment expressed in the simplest way."

I have never heard the simple truth of existence told in the way Alan Watts did it. He just naturally had a gift for expressing the truth of spirituality so it can be seen as well as heard, experienced from a perspective of being human, or not, or from a perspective that is so much more than - the suchness, as he would say. I wish I could have met him when he existed on this level of being. He blessed us all with his gift for words and truth.

I could listen to Alan watts talk about anything, to be honest. Don't care if it's different recordings of the same material. More please!

Was going to love it anyway because have already read his books. Quality of audio is great considering when it was recorded.

Alan Watts knew. Thankfully he liked talking about it rather a lot. The world could do with another Alan, but he'd probably say that the present state of affairs is perfect.

"I wasn't looking for such wisdom and beauty..."

But I sure as hell found it. The back and forth of Alan Watts' story telling is both a joy to listen to and a wonderful manifestation of the on/off, wiggly metaphor he uses to navigate his entertaining and thought provoking interpretation of the eastern thinking and its contrast to western life.

    "A guided ponder"

Having listened to Watts' excellent The Book, I couldn't help but drop another of his oratory trips into the intersection of science, philosophy, politics and psychology. As ever, Watts articulates both non-duality and Yin-Yang theory as smoothly as butter covers warm sweet corn. His greatness in this should not be understated; many others capable of leading voyages of self enquiry using the English language as a medium struggle to maintain his pace and clarity. Although this doesn't make him a replacement for the Krishnamurthys and Moojis of the world, the non denominational feast he serves up by drawing on a wide variety of traditions from around the world demonstrates not just his versedness, but the old adage stated in The Upanishads: "Truth is but one; the sages speak of it by many names". By clearing away the delusions we hold through languages limitations and doctrinal dogma, Watts skillfully guides us back the gem of truth that all along was in our minds but had somehow been overlooked under all that unconscious conditioning. A fantastic primer for any truth seeker and just as relevant today as when he spoke it.
