Publisher's Summary

Best-selling author and ministry leader Thom S. Rainer drew an exceptional response when he posted a 500-word declaration about church membership to his daily blog. I Am a Church Member started a conversation about the attitudes and responsibilities of church members - rather than the functional and theological issues - that previous new member primers all but ignored.

Thoughtfully expanded to book form, I Am a Church Member begins to remedy the outbreak of inactive or barely committed church members, addressing without apology what is expected of those who join a body of believers. When a person's attitude is consistently biblical and healthy, matters of giving, serving, and so forth will fall into place more naturally.

Six intentional chapters with study questions guide this rising discussion.

A pastors open letter

This book read like a study guide for a pastors dream member. This is the membership he imagined when he signed up for ministry. He has now taken the time to write out the instructions on how to make his life easier. If the church is symbolically a “hospital” for sick people , how then do you ask people to pledge how they will present themselves , and the symptoms they can or can not have when they come for help. While i agree with the premise that church membership is a gift and you are there to serve, At some point a pastor and his leadership should take into account how their leadership style or lack there of contributes to country club membership behavior ...

A must-read for churches

I recently joined a joined a church and this is there book that we are using in the new members classes. We're supposed to be covering 1 chapter over 6 weeks, but I've read this 3 times and wee haven't even gotten to week 2 yet. Some parts feel redundant at first, but breaking it down and rereading allows you to break down each point a uncover the depth of each one. It's great content inn a small package.

I am a struggling church member...

Great information about service to the church and it's staff. Enjoyed listening to this book. I am a struggling church member with a chronic illness and have enjoyed listening to audiobooks that our Pastor has been preaching on this year in 2017. I love my church but am just unable to attend with my illness. These books have made it easier to feel somewhat connected and less alone at times. Thanks for offering this audiobook and others to us.

More negative than encouraging

I got this book because a church member recommended it. I'm a youth pastor/ associate at a relatively small church. We are between pastors right now and this member thought this would our church.

I listened to it in one sitting and I was not encouraged. Intentionally or not, this book seemed to make a list of faults and say, "this needs to change." Not many examples of how it's done right.

The information isn't bad. The premise is good, but delivery was bad. I'm tired of Christian leaders telling me how bad I am. Tell me how good I can be.

I honestly won't recommend this book any time soon.
