Critic reviews

"Tim Keller's ministry in New York City is leading a generation of seekers and skeptics toward belief in God. I thank God for him." (Billy Graham)
"Unlike most suburban megachurches, much of Redeemer is remarkably traditional. What is not traditional is Dr. Keller's skill in speaking the language of his urbane audience.... Observing Dr. Keller's professorial pose on stage, it is easy to understand his appeal." ( The New York Times)

"Fifty years from now, if evangelical Christians are widely known for their love of cities, their commitment to mercy and justice, and their love of their neighbors, Tim Keller will be remembered as a pioneer of the new urban Christians." (

Christianity Today Magazine)

Not just for preachers

This is a great resource for teachers, preachers, and anyone who wants to share the Gospel better. Pastor Keller does an excellent job in reminding us to not only live in Christ and share that truth but also he reveals how Christ is evident in all of scripture. I ended up downloading the Kindle version so that I could highlight and bookmark areas for me to go back on.

Much more than a book about preaching

This book provides plenty of practical advice about preaching, but is more than a book about preaching. Keller provides insight that is valuable for any person (and, of course, Christian)

not really a preaching book, more a book on cultur

this is not what I would call a preaching book as much as it talks about connecting with other world views and cultures.

Best Keller ever! Reader is lacking

I have read a lot of Keller's writing and I always find it insightful, clear, and Christ-centered. Many of the themes in his other books have been tested and verified in his sermons and talks. As an avid listener of Keller's preaching, the content of his writing is very familiar. Not so with this work. Still insightful and clear, 'Preaching' was brand new to me. I am a layperson, and I think this work is written to preachers. But I was enriched and I took away huge, practical perspectives for my own devotion and study. I needed this.
I read along as I listened, so I noticed the reader making mistakes. He also mispronounced words, which was mildly annoying. It was bearable, but I will make a note to avoid Sean Pratt's reading in the future.

Solid, insightful, biblical

A refreshing departure from 'how-to' books, Keller emphasizes the power of the Word itself to change hearts. The involvement of technique - connecting with the congregation - is right on and not overbearing. Highly recommended for lay people and clergy alike.

Best book on modern preaching.

I'm very impressed with the content of this book and found it very helpful. A balance on what a preacher ought to be and how he must craft a message.

Keller excellent and accessible

As a preacher with some experience, I find many homiletic books to be boring: not so with Keller! He is an excellent writer that speaks out of a wealth of experience and study, and, more importantly, from the riches of Christ discovered in the Holy Scriptures and in the delivery of sermons to actual people. He always surprises me and edifies me.
