Publisher's summary

A former religious radio host raised in the cradle of Christianity, Seth Andrews, battled his own doubts for many years. His attempts to reconcile faith and the facts led him to a conclusion previously unthinkable, and this once-true believer ultimately became host of one of the most popular atheist communities on the internet.

Great story of one man's transition to atheism

Seth Andrews has done a wonderful job of describing one fairly typical deconversion process from Christianity to atheism. If I had his talent, I could have written this book. I was raised in a devout Catholic home and, once I left the sheltering cocoon of home and parish as a young adult, I began questioning my faith and reading, reading, reading.

And among the works I read was the Bible. That was a shocking eye-opener and Seth Andrews describes that "revelation" process perfectly. Then I read "Isaac Asimov's Guide to the Bible: Old and New Testament" and was further amazed by my own ignorance and resulting gullibility. We have, in this book, a wonderful story written with stark honesty and great respect, and read so beautifully by the author that you feel like your having a conversation with him.

Definitely recommend for both the story and the narration.

Good

but his rant centers on The Bible, written by men, and Christianity, and organized religion, invented by men. Fine, but as is often overlooked, God may be something beyond the scope of our limited imagination and understanding, should there be a Supreme Mover Creator. To dismiss "God" is not deep thinking. To dismiss the probability of truth behind organized religion and The Bible is another. Call me agnostic.

Could not stop listening!

Seth has a gift. He is a wonder narrator and brings an engaging, interesting, thought provoking audio book for the world to read. This book, although only four ish hours long, (I didn't want it to end).. is very informative and perfectly balanced, easy to listen too, and brings to light how The Thinking Atheist came to be. Religious people take heed: The internet is the new god. Your beliefs are eventually too fade, and science will, eventually, take over as the truth that it is. Seth Andrews is going to help change the world.

A good introduction for new atheists and doubters

If you listen to Seth Andrews' The Thinking Atheist podcast, you've already heard most of what's in this book. (But Seth has a voice like melted chocolate, so it's enjoyable to hear again.)

The best chapters give us an insider's view of the business of selling Christianity, through Seth's experiences as a Christian radio broadcaster.

Recommended for those just starting out on their atheist journey, as Seth is compassionate, wise and funny.

Simply excellent

Very good- mirrored my own path to rational free thought enlightenment . A book that all Christians should read if they are not afraid to challenge themselves spiritually and intellectually.

Worst book ever

The book started out OK. And then in one of the chapters, he mentions the song Baby Baby by Amy Grant. Ever since he mentioned it, I had that stupid song stuck in my head. It's been torturing me for days now. This author is going to hell for this. And hell does exist, it is a room where they play Baby Baby over and over again. This book and especially that song should be banned.....

just kidding, I've been a big fan. Keep up the good work.
