Publisher's summary

Welcome to the future of America. Land of chaos and home of the ambitious...

After years of unchecked extremism, violence has become the decisive force in American politics.

With a hung Electoral College vote, a constitutional standoff between Congress and the Supreme Court, and rabble-rousing state governors fueling the fire, the fever of civil war reaches a crescendo.

Inauguration day looms. No one is safe. Not the people. Not their president. Not even democracy.

From the rhetoric-stained halls of power to the reluctant warriors representing the last firing line of domestic policy, get ready to take an extreme tour of the next major chapter in US history.

Keep low, stay alert, and just maybe you'll survive a tour of duty in Operation Enduring Unity.

Intrigue and Action Paired for a Great Book

Would you listen to Power Games: Operation Enduring Unity I: The Second Civil War again? Why?

Absolutely! This book had lots of interesting intrigue in I it and it required you to pay attention to all the details. It could definitely be enjoyed again with lots more information gleaned the second time through.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Power Games: Operation Enduring Unity I: The Second Civil War?

This entire book made me think of today and all the civil and political unrest of our current times. Isn't that what a good book does to the reader/listener - encourage thinking?

Any additional comments?

The narrator did an excellent job of bringing this work to life. His pacing was fantastic, his characters unique and real, and his passion convinced me he is a true storyteller of the highest level. Job more than well done. I was given this book in exchange for an honest review which I have enjoyed writing.

Good story overall. Great narration.

The story’s concept is interesting and the reasons that start the civil war are different than most of the books I have read or listened too that cover the subject. The speeds at which some events escalate don’t seem realistic for the facts the book has presented at that point. It is a good listen still haven’t decided if I am going to buy the next book yet.

You have to like weapon specs to enjoy this

This has a unique premise: a new civil war in the US. After a failed US election (basically Bush Gore election) the state of Florida decides to declare its independence. It starts as just a power play by the politicians involved but quickly gets out of hand when people rush to join militias. It then escalates into full scale warfare when the federal government invades Florida.

There is a fair amount of political satire in the book, with the author spending plenty of text on the shortcomings of our democracy. It's fairly amusing in a Rush Limbaugh kind of way. However, there is amazing amount of text dedicated to explaining the specifications of almost every weapon system in the U.S arsenal. You have to like military hardware to enjoy this book. I got tired of it and actually have stopped listening to book after 8 hours.

Narration is excellent

A perfect blend of action and political intrigue

It was a great balance of political intrigue and military action of a possible American Civil War. Android action sequences and political back channels as the author has a pretty good grasp of what's going on in American politics these days.

Intense and intriguing

An intriguing look at where things seem to be heading in a book that seems close to predicting the future.

Worth your time if you are a military fiction fan.

What made the experience of listening to Power Games: Operation Enduring Unity I: The Second Civil War the most enjoyable?

I had never listened to this author before so I wasn't really sure what to expect. I was impressed to say the least. If you are a Tom Clancy war novel fan, then you will enjoy this book and I am guessing the remaining two books in this series. There were several moments in the book that I thought, man I sure wish that would happen in real life (people who protest military funerals received a severe butt whooping), and other times I prayed that they would never happen (another civil war where Americans are killing Americans). It goes to show you that tensions can escalate very quickly under hot tempered leaders and poor choices can have devastating consequences. Compounding bad choices together really increases the aggressiveness of each party. History loves will enjoy this book from the standpoint of what a future civil war could look like, while military folks will enjoy the author’s insight into the active duty versus National Guard soldier mindset.

What about Kevin Clay’s performance did you like?

He did a good job with different voices and keeping the story going.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

It was too long to do that, but I did really enjoy getting back into the story each time I put my headphones in.

Second Civil War

Any additional comments?

I enjoyed listening to the book, the non stop action and the unfolding of events. it seems the only way americans can actually say what they truly believe about their own domestic problems is in fiction. This is a futuristic scenario on how the US can tear itself apart due to it political problems. Very believeable story.

Save Your Money

I got 20 minutes in and had to stop. Badly written, terrible narration, plot holes big enough to sale an aircraft carrier through.
