Story
The very strange but nevertheless true story of the dark underbelly of a 1960s hippie utopia. Laurel Canyon in the 1960s and early 1970s was a magical place where a dizzying array of musical artists congregated to create much of the music that provided the soundtrack to those turbulent times. But there was a dark side to that scene as well. Many didn't make it out alive, and many of those deaths remain shrouded in mystery to this day.

In this brave and moving memoir, Corey Feldman is revealing the truth about what his life was like behind the scenes: His is a past that included physical, drug, and sexual abuse, a dysfunctional family from which he was emancipated at age fifteen, three high-profile arrests for drug possession, a nine-month stint in rehab, and a long, slow crawl back to the top of the box office.

Story
At last, the definitive audiobook about perhaps the best cabin crew dramedy ever filmed: View from the Top starring Gwyneth Paltrow. In Ayoade on Top, Richard Ayoade, perhaps one of the most 'insubstantial' people of our age, takes us on a journey from Peckham to Paris by way of Nevada and other places we don't care about. It's a journey deep within, in a way that's respectful and non-invasive; a journey for which we will all pay a heavy price, even if you've waited for the smaller paperback edition. Ayoade argues for the canonisation of this brutal masterpiece.

Story
Jeff Speck has dedicated his career to determining what makes cities thrive. And he has boiled it down to one key factor: walkability. The very idea of a modern metropolis evokes visions of bustling sidewalks, vital mass transit, and a vibrant, pedestrian-friendly urban core. But in the typical American city, the car is still king, and downtown is a place that’s easy to drive to but often not worth arriving at. Making walkability happen is relatively easy and cheap; seeing exactly what needs to be done is the trick.

Story
It took me a lifetime to have the courage and the clarity to write my memoir. I want to tell the story of the moments - the ups and downs, the triumphs and traumas, the debacles and the dreams - that contributed to the person I am today. This book is composed of my memories, my mishaps, my struggles, my survival, and my songs. Unfiltered. I went deep into my childhood and gave the scared little girl inside of me a big voice. I let the abandoned and ambitious adolescent have her say, and the betrayed and triumphant woman I became tell her side.

In weeks after the September 11 attacks, 18-year-old Mansoor Adayfi was kidnapped by Afghan militia and sold to US forces for bounty money. After months of interrogations, he was sent to the US military prison at Guantánamo Bay, Cuba, as one of its first prisoners. Like the nearly 800 other men imprisoned at Guantanamo, Adayfi didn’t know why he was imprisoned or for how long. He had never seen a skyscraper and couldn’t imagine what the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center looked like, much less how they were destroyed.

It was 1970 in a defeated Rhode Island fishing town. Vietnam and Nixon dominated the national news. Both the near and distant future looked bleak. But they were five inseparable high school friends with something incredible in common: an unwavering resolve to look after each other no matter what hell life threw at them. And they were on a mission. The plan was simple: Go off the grid before they turned 18 to avoid the draft. They’d sell some grass, stack some cash, then head west and start a commune. What could possibly go wrong?

When it comes to Mariah Carey, star power is never in doubt. She has sold hundreds of millions of albums and cut more chart-topping hits than any other solo artist—ever. And she has that extraordinary five-octave vocal range. But there is more to her legacy than eye-popping numbers. Why Mariah Carey Matters examines the creative evolution and complicated biography of a true diva, making the case that, despite her celebrity, Carey’s musicianship and influence are insufficiently appreciated.

Story
Over the twenty-four years she was enslaved on the Montgomery Plantation, Louella learned to feel one thing: hate. Hate for the man who sold her mother. Hate for the overseer who left her daddy to hang from a noose. Hate so powerful there's no room in her heart for love, not even for the honorable Reverend William, whom she likes and respects enough to marry.

Insightful, touching and inspiring
Let’s be honest, we would listen to her read a phone book in talking or singing voice. The depth and intelligence both mentally and emotionally are very apparent in her body of work and the breakdown of her lesser known songs is a rare look inside her life.

Natural
She’s so natural, just speaking to us like we’re a friend. She expands on her music and touches on the feelings experienced which led to the creation of them. As a Lamb, it’s everything I wanted to hear. Give us more!!!!

An inside look at some deep cuts
Really fun and insightful share from Mariah on some of her more emotional lyric. Her catalog is so big she could do a series all by herself. Also really fun surprise at the end describing her dance remixes over the years which she rarely talked about in any other interview. Portraits is a touching song and the dance mix is great.

She is so passionate. while speaking behind the scenes. of her writing process, and the meanings behind the songs.
I love how pure and open arms she is. so sweet, kind, heartwarming, down to earth, and full of humbleness. this is truly a gift. this is a total treasure that will forever be cherished. I truly deeply appreciate everything music wise, different projects she does, and her being her self. she is as real as real can get. the love & the interactions she has w/ her fanbase (lambily). it's incredibly everything. much love to her & her family. she is a real one. she saved my life so many times in my life. just by through her music, and how she is with her fanbase (lambily). when she performs live on stage. I will always & forever support her. I'm a ride or die. nothing will ever change that. L4L ♥️🐑 ~ SB💫

Conversation About Writing Processes
Portrait of a Portrait by Mariah Carey
Words + Music Vol. 40
1h 10m narrated by author
Genre: Arts & Entertainment, Music, Memoirs
Featuring: Songwriting Process, Poems, My World, Lyrics, Singing, Song Snippets, Acts, Caution Album, Collaborating, Definitions, Open Lyrics For Relatability, Uplifting, Writing A Remix, David Cole, David Morales, Music, Full Song of "Portrait (Hopeful Child Remix)"
Rating as a movie: PG
Songs for the soundtrack: "Looking In," "My Saving Grace," "Outside," "Fantasy," "Dreamlover," "8th Grade," "Butterfly," "Runaway," "Vision Of Love," "Portrait," "Petals," "Can’t Take That Away (Mariah’s Theme)," "Anytime You Need A Friend (C&C Club Version)," "Dreamlover (Def Club Mix)," "Fly Away (Butterfly Reprise)," "Fantasy (Def Club Mix)," "Honey (Another Taste of Honey David Morales Remix)," "Portrait (Hopeful Child Remix"
My rating: 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟✍️🎤🎶🎹💿
My thoughts: This is basically a conversation about how Mariah writes her more personal songs and why she chooses the words she uses. She talks about the process of writing several personal songs versus fictional/less personal ones, with a focus on the song "Portrait." She discusses the different writing processes she uses for original songs compared to how she writes a remix, then discusses the new remix she wrote for "Portrait", and "Portrait (Hopefully Child Remix)" and hopes you catch the vibe between the two. It's like a fifteen-minute song, which is long by club mix standards, usually a little over ten minutes is considered long.
Recommend to others: Yes. This is a must-listen for fans.
