Publisher's summary

Perennial is all around you.

On the morning of the first day of senior year, Alix Keener awakens from a vivid, terrifying dream in which a ghostly boy warns her: Perennial is all around you. Shaking off the dream - and the cryptic message - is just what Alix doesn’t need as she starts a new life in Beaconsfield, the posh Detroit suburb she and her dad recently moved to after her mom’s death.

Alix manages to ignore the mysterious message until one of her new classmates, the alluring Lewis Wilde, mentions it - he knows something about Perennial, and hints that it has to do with a boy who died in Alix’s bedroom. Suddenly wracked by waking visions, Alix finds herself teaming up with Lewis to uncover the truth.

Alix’s developing psychic abilities become more powerful, but reality becomes increasingly unclear. Alix wants to trust Lewis, but a shadowy person named Vagabond hints that Alix’s trust may be misplaced. As things become more dangerous and complex, Alix must choose whether to use her burgeoning psychic powers or risk losing everything that matters to her.

Could have been good with different performer

Is there anything you would change about this book?

The performer. Listen to the sample before buying!! If you feel that you can tolerate the irritating performance of the narration, you should go ahead and purchase the audiobook If not, please just buy the paperback because it gets even worse! I am usually one to only leave good reviews, but I feel compelled to warn people. I am a huge fan of his writing and the modern, sci-fi adventure plot. Unfortunately, it was almost painful to listen to this audiobook due to the horrible narration. I can't even explain why it was so bad. At certain times she would be incredibly dull like listening to Siri read to you. Then, suddenly she would be screaming and incredibly over dramatic during a part where it was uncalled for. I understand that the protagonist/narrator is supposed to be a teenaged girl who is more of an old soul and sort of nerdy, but the performer completely lost sight of who she was supposed to be portraying.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Perennial?

Now that I'm done ranting about the performer, I thought Perennial was interesting. The mixture of psychic powers, the paranormal, and evil creatures, all mixed into the dangerous streets of Detroit could have been great.

How could the performance have been better?

Not for me.

This is just another teenage book that is low on plot and character development, I felt like I have read the story before a million times. I'm starting to not like the first person point of view in writing. Especially in young adult books because really I don't want every thought that comes in their head, in this book the main character just isn't that interesting. This was another book I got on sale with Whispersync, this must have been why I bought it because I’m trying to be more selective with young adult books. I gave up after 2 hours, especially since the ghost was such a douchebag that I don't know if I would have helped him so readily. I didn't think the narrator was as bad as the other reviewer were saying, but mind you she was just okay.

Horribly narrated

I could barely make it through this book.
The overall story was okay but the narration just made it harder to get into.
