Story
Killashandra Ree has spent ten grueling years in musical training, anticipating interstellar celebrity as a vocal soloist. She is young, beautiful—and still without prospects. After learning that a flaw in her voice will prevent her from singing lead, she hears of the mysterious Heptite Guild on the planet Ballybran, where the fabled Black Crystal is found. Mining this strange form of crystal is a dangerous occupation but to Killa, the risks are acceptable. Remarkably, her adaptation to crystal mining is unusually easy. The problem is—few people who land on Ballybran ever leave.

Sassinak was 12 when the raiders came. That made her just the right age: old enough to be used, young enough to be broken. Or so the slavers thought. But Sassy turned out to be a little different from your typical slave girl. Maybe it was her unusual physical strength. Maybe it was her friendship with the captured Fleet crewman. Maybe it was her spirit. Whatever it was, it wouldn’t let her resign herself to the life of a slave. She bided her time, watched for her moment. Finally it came, and she escaped. But that was only the beginning for Sassinak.

Chopped up speedspeak an insult to a great series!
What disappointed you about Pegasus in Flight & To Ride Pegasus?
Left out way too much in the abridgement. Books are not in the correct reading order.
Would you ever listen to anything by Anne McCaffrey again?
Yes! But only unabridged.
What didn’t you like about Adrienne Barbeau’s performance?
Speaks way too fast and just runs everything together.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
At first I was excited to have a digital version of both of these books, but then I realized that they were not in the right order, that they were abridged and that the reader is terrible.

Unabridged is better!
The only thing I truly can dislike about this book, is that they abridged it. The parts that were cut out actually do help explain and enrich the rest of the story, and unfortunately, I have never seen an unabridged audio version. Otherwise the story is engaging and fun and the characters truly shine! The way the generational gaps are bridged between both stories really makes you want to learn more!

Horrible chop job to an incredible series
This abridged version was so chopped up as to make it unrecognizable to the original version. The reader was lightning fast with no breaks even between chapters. And as i am sure it has been pointed out already it starts with the second book in the series. And both the first and second books chapters were just combined together so you couldn't "skip" to the first book. Horrible job done to this incredible series all the ways around. F-

Confused
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
An unabridged version
Any additional comments?
I read this series a long time ago, and apparently reading a full length novel and then later listening to an abridged version is not for me, I keep thinking something is missing but can't remember details enough to tell what it is. Good, but can't recommend it if you've read the full book. The narration is OK, but the telepathy part is badly done.

Ruined by abridging
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
Yes, and no.
This is two books in one. In reverse sequence.
Audio wise is very acceptable.
But the missing chucks are key parts, and somewhat if rating in their omission,
Would you be willing to try another book from Anne McCaffrey? Why or why not?
I love Anne mccaffrey, I want to see more good audiobooks
What three words best describe Adrienne Barbeau’s voice?
Whilst not a person fan, I can listen to this story more than once, without issue or unhappiness.
Do you think Pegasus in Flight & To Ride Pegasus needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?
The third one in this sequence is Pegasus in space. However it should only be touched in an unabridged state,
As there is so much juicy bits to the story, that tie in the with tower and the hive series. Yes. Definitely do an unabridged one. Thanks :)
Any additional comments?
If you can cope with stories misisng key side elements, or parts you think are key, then this will be ace for you.
Personally the bits missed out and the wrong layout of this
See stories, esp when audible don't have chapter alak which chap is the start of which story info fails, does make for an annoying reread

Wish they were unabridged
These are great stories, suitable for teenagers as I was when I first read them. The story of how poisoning powers are proven to be true, and then in the second book how those with talents are used, and how a very badly crippled boy learns he not only has talent, but hope he can use it to make himself super powered is an ageless and wonderful story well narrated. Please bring them out in full, along with the unabridged Tower and Hive series??

Spoken too fast
I really like the accents and how Ms. Barbeau reads the book. However, I have had to slow down the speed of the narrative and yet still struggle to hear all of the words. I feel like Ms. Barbeau’s words run together with how fast she reads. Otherwise, very well done.

Story
Sassinak was 12 when the raiders came. That made her just the right age: old enough to be used, young enough to be broken. Or so the slavers thought. But Sassy turned out to be a little different from your typical slave girl. Maybe it was her unusual physical strength. Maybe it was her friendship with the captured Fleet crewman. Maybe it was her spirit. Whatever it was, it wouldn’t let her resign herself to the life of a slave. She bided her time, watched for her moment. Finally it came, and she escaped. But that was only the beginning for Sassinak.

Story
Nancia's vision of human nature was shattered on her first voyage. Now she's bound for NX-928, and the last thing she needs is a "brawn" partner like Forister - he's the epitome of cynicism. Nevertheless, the idealistic Nancia and the worldly-wise Forister must band together to save the galaxy. This tale is narrated by television and stage actress Constance Towers ( Capitol).
