Excellent Listen

Great conspiracy plot and how things wrapped up so well. Can't wait to read more of this series.

Abridgment was actually an improvement...

I remember reading this book years ago and not liking it as much as the other books in the series. Due to scenes with sexual and emotional abuse, and occasional racist and sexist remarks, I couldn’t read through it without either pitying or raging against the characters. This recording edits out most of those scenes without removing plot points, and actually makes the book more enjoyable, in my opinion. Surprisingly, with all the cringeworthy and controversial stuff cut out, it turned out to be a fairly good detective/spy thriller set in space.

A little slow to begin with but then it weaves youall the way into the story.

Good book, incomplete audiobook, edited.

I have read the paperback version of this book and I have it on Kindle. Excellent story. This version however is missing parts all over the place. I think in some places, whole pages just might be missing, and in others, paragraphs.

Abridgement poorly done

Read the actual books for a far better appreciationof the authors, the depth of the charactersand the stories. I've read the print books a couple times, years ago, but this is my first time listening to the audio series. They are NOT synced to the e-books and indeed, some are not available in e-book form. I didn't read the fine print when I purchased the audiobooks. I wondered why the story seemed so choppy, and at times difficult to follow. Whoever edited the abridged version did a very poor job. This is also not to my favorite narrator. At times her raspy breathing detracts from the narrative. Also, her non-character voice is often indistinguishable from her character voices, because after reading a quote she continues in the same character voice for the rest of the sentence. All in all, it is helpful to have an audio version when my hands are busy, but you miss a lot of these excellent stories in the abridged audio. For me, it was far more satisfying to actually read this series myself.
