Publisher's Summary

This program is read by the author.

In Colin Quinn's new book, the popular comedian, social commentator, and star of the shows Red State Blue State and Unconstitutional tackles the condition of our union today.

  • Utah: The Church of States
  • Vermont: The Old Hippie State
  • Florida: The Hot Mess State
  • Arizona: The Instagram Model State
  • Wisconsin: The Diet Starts Tomorrow State

The United States is in a 50-states-wide couples’ counseling session, thinking about filing for divorce. But is that really what we want? Can a nation composed of states that are so different possibly hang together?

Colin Quinn, comedian, social commentator, and writer and star of Red State Blue State and Unconstitutional, calls us out state-by-state, from Connecticut to Hawaii. He identifies the hypocrisies inherent in what we claim to believe and what we actually do. Within a framework of big-picture thinking about systems of government - after all, how would you put this country together if you started from scratch today? - to dead-on observations about the quirks and vibes of the citizens in each region, Overstated skewers us all: red, blue, and purple. It’s ultimately infused with the same blend of optimism and practicality that sparked the US into being.

5 star book

The great CQ knocked it out of the park. Much better than Jim Norton's books.

Georgia - Hollywood's booty call

CQ goes through each state and touches on what makes them * special * in this great land of ours. He throws in a little bit of US history in there too. There's no deep dive on any of the states in his book, but enough to get a good idea of what he's talking about. I do love CQ's performance, slurring through the whole audiobook. Sometimes I listen to heavy fiction at times, and this is a nice refreshing read to break up my other books.

A real Citizen’s Citizen.

I’m ashamed to admit it took me until Oregon to unravel the order of states he roasts. I’m probably an above average sample of his demographic, smarts wise. Funny and poignant, love the book!

Never had so much fun with a book

CQ in all his humility (absolutely none) made this the most enjoyable listen I've had since retarted Laverne & Shirley. Hope more books or shows are on the way can't get enough of CQ.

Excellent. Blown away but not surprised, it’s CQ after all.

This was amazing. Listened to it in one sitting. The most fun I’ve had listening about human history since…the last time I saw Colin walk through the history of the world. I’m already looking forward to listening again and will grab the hard cover for my coffee table so my out-of-state friends can finally get the ol’ what-for.

A perfect day spent

Colin Quinn writes as if he is a homeless time traveling alien, sent back from the future to examine America in meticulous detail. Love this book. Love that he took the time to narrate it himself. Finished this one in a day easy.
