So many emotions

Gary Gulman writes honestly about his lifelong struggles with depression, anxiety, and loneliness. despite this very honest retelling of his growing up it is full of hope and humor.

I wanted a different spin on depression and got it!

I’ve read/listened to so many books on depression and this is the first time I smiled and laughed through one. Depression is crippling and the road is a lonely one. I hope people who are suffering find this book. Thanks for being open and so funny, Gary.

Engaging and often Profound

Great performance, first off. Gulman’s book is so well written and draws readers into the minutiae of his upbringing in a way that creates deep understanding. He also narrates his strugggles with depression and captures what it’s like. Grateful. One of those books that has made me feel less alone. Thanks, Gary, you did a good thing with this book.

What a life, and what a story. I truly enjoyed listening to this. The delivery is so good. I already loved the Gul but now I am just really smitten with his talent.

Wonderful

I didnt know what to expect the tone of this book to be. What I knew was that it was written by my favorite comedian and that it's coming off the heels of his latest special (The Great Depresh) that came out at a time that I needed it most and spoke to problems that were relevant to me at that time. When I heard Gary released this book I got it without needing to know anything more. I went in to this expecting humor and wit mixed with a heavy dose of recollection of his recent mental health crisis that he's shared. If not that then I expected a sort of typical comedians book full of easy to write chunks of recycled material. What I didn't expect was to be told the story of a sensitive boy growing up in 1980s Boston that would be as touching and captivating as this book was. With this book Gary has done what almost no one in entertainment can do, write about their childhood in such a compelling and relatable way that you end up caring more about that than you would hearing him simply recapping his career.
