#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • The first book in Diana Gabaldon’s acclaimed Outlander saga, the basis for the Starz original series.

One of the top ten best-loved novels in America, as seen on PBS’s The Great American Read!

Unrivaled storytelling. Unforgettable characters. Rich historical detail. These are the hallmarks of Diana Gabaldon’s work. Her New York Times bestselling Outlander novels have earned the praise of critics and captured the hearts of millions of fans. Here is the story that started it all, introducing two remarkable characters, Claire Beauchamp Randall and Jamie Fraser, in a spellbinding novel of passion and history that combines exhilarating adventure with a love story for the ages.

Scottish Highlands, 1945. Claire Randall, a former British combat nurse, is just back from the war and reunited with her husband on a second honeymoon when she walks through a standing stone in one of the ancient circles that dot the British Isles. Suddenly she is a Sassenach—an “outlander”—in a Scotland torn by war and raiding clans in the year of Our Lord . . . 1743.

Claire is catapulted into the intrigues of a world that threatens her life, and may shatter her heart. Marooned amid danger, passion, and violence, Claire learns her only chance of safety lies in Jamie Fraser, a gallant young Scots warrior. What begins in compulsion becomes urgent need, and Claire finds herself torn between two very different men, in two irreconcilable lives.

could NOT get passed the old narrator, who I found unappealing and boring. I finally understand the rave about this book, as this new narrator brought the book to life. wonderful new rendering, waiting for book 2 with new narrator!!

I've been an Outlander fan for years, and enjoyed the original narrations by Davina Porter. This new narration by Kristin Atherton is an absolute revelation. The characters come to life far more than they ever have before for me. The accents are spot on. The emotions are rich and nuanced. The sexy times are absolutely scorchingly hot. Highly recommend, and I can't wait for the rest of the books to come out.

Outstanding new narration

well read, a little hard to understand a few times (Scottish/Gaelic is a bit different to a midwesterner).
But a good audio book.

just a great story!

I had previously listened to the first recorded version of Outlander and didn't know if that narrator could be matched. But Kristen Atherton did a wonderful & unique recorded version of a book I love! Well done Kristen! Filled with emotion and distinctive voices for each character. I was thoroughly enthralled!

Loved Kristen's narration!

I have loved this book series for a while now and decided, why not? I'll give the audiobook a try. Let me tell you, Kristen Atherton gives you a 10/10 performance and fits Claire's character so well. I have already pre-ordered the next ones that will be performed by her in this series.

Diana Gabaldon doesn't even need words, She is able to create a world that is enthralling and always keeps me on the edge of my seat, begging for more.

My gosh. How can such a beautiful story and narration exist? I am truly lucky to have run across this when researching relevant literature for an upcoming trip to Scotland. There are certain things that change your life and this is one of them for me. Diana Gabaldon is a genius. I normally don’t like to listen to books that are not narrated by the author. I’m so so so glad I listened to this. I’m a different person now. Thank you

Beautiful

Outlander is my favorite book series of all time and I enjoy Davina‘s version but listening to Kristin‘s new version was like being able to listen to the story again for the first time. She does an incredible job! Highly recommend!

I purchased to listen to Kristin's narration. When I first listened to Outlander, I thought Davinas voice sounded too old for Claire. After half of Outlander finished, I fell in love with her voice(s).
I will get all of Kristin's new narrations, so that book 10 is cohesive listening. I dont care for her tone so far. Im hoping she loosens up, or gets more Claire feeling, bc I hear a petulant woman child. She reads Claire with such an attitude-like even in funny parts, there's no light/laughter in her voice. I imagine Claire talking with her lip curled up and almost a valley girl sound-which is strange that she sounds less British, but is a Brit. And almost all the men sound the same, whisper gruff. I'm over half through book 1. I will revise after I finish. Obviously Diana loves her narration, and likes how she reads Claire and Jamie. I hope I get there, too. She does great in the high-action parts.

Having already listened to all 9 books (6th go round now)
