Publisher's summary

Best-selling author Katie McGarry’s trademark wrong-side-of-the-tracks romance is given a new twist in the gritty YA contemporary audiobook, Only a Breath Apart.

They say your destiny is carved in stone. But some destinies are meant to be broken.

The only curse Jesse Lachlin believes in is his grandmother’s will: In order to inherit his family farm, he must win the approval of his childhood best friend, the girl he froze out his freshman year.

A fortune-teller tells Scarlett she's psychic, but what is real is Scarlett’s father’s controlling attitude and the dark secrets at home. She may be able to escape, but only if she can rely on the one boy who broke her heart.

Each midnight meeting pushes Jesse and Scarlett to confront their secrets and their feelings, but as love blooms, the curse rears its ugly head....

Praise for Only a Breath Apart:

"A gorgeous, heartfelt journey of redemption and love." (New York Times best-selling author Wendy Higgins)

"Gritty and real, Only a Breath Apart is a story of hope conjured from pain, strength drawn from innocence, and love earned from self-respect. Beautiful, poignant, and fierce.” (Kristen Simmons, critically acclaimed author of the Article 5 series)

absolutely loved it!!

this is almost exactly how I imagined Scarlett and Jessie sounded like in my head. the story is amazing and this author is one of my absolute favorites. her stories are the ones that I read over and over and over again, and not just cherry picking my favorite parts, from start to finish.

I squirmed

The story was pretty decent, but there were a handful of scenes that made me so uncomfortable. I know why they were there, but it was still hard to not want to throw my phone in the toilet out of frustration. I ended up listening at 1.25× b/c the narration was very slow.

An emotional YA story with real life concerns

This story is definitely YA (with no sex and very little kissing), but the storyline has some serious real life issues intertwined with the friends to more plot. An overall good book (even if I am a 40 something adult) that I enjoyed listening to. I give kudos to the author for writing this book and giving YA some serious answers to domestic violence and even the tools required to help someone facing those issues..It was done in a easy, concise manner that doesn't weigh you down with guilt and/or emotional upheaval that the topic of violence usually conjures up.

Katie Katie how do you do this?

Wrecked , I’m not ready to be finished with this book. More, I need it my heart was torn in two then patched back together. This love story with it's mystical , soul searching young love equated into the perfect read . Again.... thank you Katie

Unforgettable

Scarlett and Jesse. Wow! A deeply emotional story — much more than a story of young love or contrived dilemmas. Beautifully told. Memorable. Highly recommend.

Final song tribute of the book: Perfect by Ed Sheehan couldn’t be more perfect!

Emotional Story

This book was such an emotional turmoil for me, as expected from Miss Katie she always delivers heart wrenching stories that makes you want to hug these characters and ease their pain
I LOVED Scarlett she is an inspiring character and I admired her courage and everything she'd done to secure her future against that asshole of a father .. I did like Jesse as a character but I felt that there was not much to him in the book, also the romance was a bit lacking for my taste
The ending was inspiring and nice and I really hope Scarlett and Jesse finally find their forever :)

The narration was excellent, good job for both of them they really got me in the mood for the story

Absolute Heart Wrenching

I could NOT stop listening to this story. Katie McGarry had my heart racing and holding my breathe!!
Brittany Pressley did a fantastic job. She knew just how to pitch her voice in those heart wrenching moments to put you IN THE MOMENT. Graham Halstead did an amazing job too. I was so blown away by this story. A boy fighting what hes been told his destiny was since he was a child and truly believes it is his destiny. A girl whos heart has been broken in so many ways and lost her best friend who iced her out years before but could be her only savior.
Such a beautifully and well written story!!
