A smashing, award-winning debut novel that introduces Charley Davidson: part-time private investigator and full-time Grim Reaper. Charley sees dead people. That’s right, she sees dead people. And it’s her job to convince them to “go into the light”. But when these very dead people have died under less than ideal circumstances (i.e. murder), sometimes they want Charley to bring the bad guys to justice. Complicating matters are the intensely hot dreams she’s been having about an Entity who has been following her all her life...and it turns out he might not be dead after all.

Publisher's Summary
You can run from the grave, but you can't hide. Half-vampire Cat Crawfield is now Special Agent Cat Crawfield, working for the government to rid the world of the rogue undead. She's still using everything Bones, her sexy and dangerous ex, taught her. But when Cat is targeted for assassination, the only man who can help her is the vampire she left behind.
Being around him awakens all her emotions, from the adrenaline kick of slaying vamps side by side to the reckless passion that consumed them. But a price on her head—wanted: dead or half-alive—means her survival depends on teaming up with Bones. And no matter how hard she tries to keep things professional between them, she'll find that desire lasts forever and that Bones won't let her get away again.
Jeaniene Frost, New York Times and USA Today best-selling author, lives with her husband and their very spoiled dog in Florida. Although not a vampire herself, she confesses to having pale skin, wearing a lot of black, and sleeping in late whenever possible. And while she can't see ghosts, she loves to walk through old cemeteries. She also loves poetry and animals, but fears children and hates to cook.

Unfinished business - Outstanding
Bones is back! In this excellent extension to book one, it is four year later and Bones has been looking for Cat all that time. Cat on the other hand has become a very efficient vampire killing machine. That is the opening scene on this excellent next novel by Frost. There are two heroes in this novel series so far; Bones and Cat. There are such great reveals in this story, adding more color to Cat's background, you will love it.
I've got used to Tavia Gilbert's voice for Bones. Still not a favorite, but it will do -- I guess. Anyone who likes supernatural will like this book. There are only vampires in this novel series with the occasion ghoul and ghost. Unlike other supernatural series littered with many different types of supernaturals, these two have been focused on vamps only.
I recommend this series. Frost is two for two. I give it a thumbs up for an interesting and additive listen.

Makes for a Short Commute
So this book was way better than the first. I'm addicted to this series and can't wait to keep going. I loved some of the turns the series took with this installment and there was definitely some stuff there that I wasn't expecting. These books are making for wonderful entertaining on my daily commute. Again, my main complaint is with the voice the narrator uses for Bones. Isn't just not masculine enough. But I do recommend these books for anyone that likes some urban romance. Just beware there are very long and detailed sex scenes in the books.

Summing it up....
One Foot in the Grave takes place around four years after book one in the Night Huntress series, Halfway to the Grave. Cat is dealing with a lot in this book, mainly her decision to leave Bones, which haunts her every day. She knows he is the love of her life, but she made a bargain with the devil, oops, I mean government, and for his safety must stay away from Bones. Yeah, that plan is working really well until she ummm bumps into him, at her BEST FRIENDS wedding! Coincidence? Who knows! The point is, what she left behind years ago is back and he comes with a vengeance that promises to never let her go again!!
The Rundown....
Overall, I was pleasantly pleased with this book. I really like the way the narrator, Tavia Gilbert portrays Cat. Enthusiastic, Sarcastic, Sensitive, somewhat Cocky, Fearless...these are just a few of the traits I love in Cat and and she emanates them flawlessly. Even the side characters sound pretty realistic, my favorite being Cat's nut-case of a mom, Justina. My only gripe, is the narrator's portrayal of Bones. In my mind, Bones is this hot, macho-ey man with a deep sexy, sultry voice!! When Bones comes to mind, I immediately think Man Candy. Unfortunaltey, the narrator's interpreation of Mr. Bones is a tad, wee-bit underwhelming! She gives him an English accent (sort of) that sounds like a mix between Mary Poppins and the witch from the Wizard of Oz. And no, not the good witch Glenda, I am talking about the Wicked Witch from the West. Yeah, the creepy green one. [hunches shoulders...curls fingers and squeals...."I'm melting, I'm melting, what a world...what a world!] Shutting mouth now!!
Okay, so overall, and despite my previous Bones banter, I really did enjoy this Audio book. Sidenote- If your a newbie to the Night Huntress world, I suggest you actually read the book first. Then, if you like it as much as I do, che

Great vampire series... Sucks you right in...
I've read so many vampire books that by now I'm hard to impress but let me assure you that this series is good, very very good. What I love most about this series is the heroine Cat. She's a kick-ass vampire slayer, strong, independent and does not need to be rescued. And Bones is the first vampire hero who's not too possessive, sicko and manipulative. He's just hot! Super hot and treats her so good.
This book has fast paced action, humor, an awesome cat fight and it's just so interesting! The romance is still powerful and the sex scenes are hot. Very. Hot. I would recommend this book for many reasons but there is one extended amazing love scene that is so amazingly hot that I had to actually listen to it twice to remember every little detail. It is one of the hottest scenes I've ever read in a paranormal romance book. Even the police was called twice that's how powerful that was! I must say I really like Bones!!
Narration: Tavia Gilbert is an excellent narrator. I only gave her two stars because although she does a great job with 99% of the characters, her portrayal of Bones is horrible! Why did she chose that terrible annoying voice for the sexy vampire Bones? Why, oh whyyy? Bones voice actually takes away from the story. The action and the story itself deserve another chance so I guess you really have to try to imagine Bones and not focus on how he sounds.

Oh Kitten!
Any additional comments?
A great follow up to the first book. Honestly, the ending of the first book made me raise a few eyebrows. I was nervous about where Frost was taking the story, (Cat's Job) but she weaves it in perfectly. Four years has past in the story when we pick up book 2. Cat is very different than she was in first book - oh she is still her "punch first and ask questions later" self, but she is more confident, more assertive and definately the Head Bitch In Charge!
Again, like the first book - the plot seems almost secondary to the two main characters relationship - which Frost writes very well. Not to say the plot is not good - it is, but the plot only serves to build or tear down the relationship between Cat and Bones, which what makes it a good story for me. The plot moves along swiftly and with many new characters to make every turn of the page that much more interesting.
The only spoiler I will give is that I am about to begin Book 5 and they keep getting better and better!

I wish I would run into the love of my life again!
What did you love best about One Foot in the Grave?
When Cat saw bones at Denise's wedding and stared at him down the isle. My heart was pounding beacuse I know what I would have done. Stoped walking in my tracks. Said "sorry girl, its your day, but thats my man over there! I need 10 minutes!"
What other book might you compare One Foot in the Grave to and why?
Only other night huntress books for being so damn good!
Which character – as performed by Tavia Gilbert – was your favorite?
Bones. At first I hated his bloody accent in the previous novel. But I had to say I was missing his "cherrio" accent with a passion. I couldn't wait to hear him speak again!
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Yeah of course. Anticipation was killer!
Any additional comments?

One Foot In The Grave
I've been looking forward to listening to this book for a while. I snapped it up as soon as it came out and finished it in a day. This is the second book in the Night Huntress Series and is every bit as gripping and fast-paced as the first. It was great to see Bones again. For someone like me who's read a lot of vampire fiction, he really is a breath of fresh air. One thing this book had over the first was that the Author seemed to have a better idea of when detail became too much detail. There were a couple of times in the previous book when I was given more information than I wanted, especially during some of the fight scenes. I didn't find that this time round. There were a couple of stomach churning moments, but as they were necessary to the story I could cope. The sex scenes were few as usual, which I like, though one was a little on the explicite side. All in all, if you like your romance with a healthy dose of action and vampires thrown in, this book is for you.

A Sequel That Delivers
I like this series and I like the narration. I lot of people have a problem with the mockney accent given to Bones, but if you've made it through the first book you will be used to it. This is a satisfying sequel which develops both the characters and the story and gives them bigger, intriguing obstacles to overcome. If you enjoyed the first book, you will like this. I found the series after looking for humorous, romantic fantasy recommendations on Goodreads and this book is one of the highest rated in the series. I hope it's not downhill from here!

I am super obsessed with the books now.
the first book took me a while to get into but towards the end I was hooked. this book was flipping great! I loved every second and I'm actually use to the funny voices for the male characters.
